I just don't 'get' Todd Snider

He's one of my favorite songwriters, ever. I also don't really enjoy Little Feat all that much without Lowell George, who was undoubtedly that band's heart and soul. Without him they're merely an approximation of what they once were. They're not bad, it's just not the same without Lowell and they never will be. Back to Todd, he's much closer to what I liked about Buffett to start with than the parade of tropic troubadours who make a living imitating him ever will be. So, there's also that. Everyone's mileage is going to vary but that's one reason why I'm such a huge fan.

We can agree to disagree

Which is exactly what I'm saying. Some folks here are really into the whole "Trop Rock" thing but I can't stand it. That's not meant to be offensive, it's just not my thing. I'm more into singer/songwriters like Todd, Ryan Adams, Mary Gauthier, Gillian Welch, Guy Clark, Chris Knight, Tim Easton, etc. I also really like newer bands like Mount Moriah, Megafaun and the Love Language but I don't really see anyone here mentioning those artists or taking any real interest in them. That's where I seem to have a real disconnect with Buffett fans, at least with the majority of the ones I've encountered online. It doesn't mean that I think what I listen to is better, it's just what I enjoy more. If we all liked the exact same things it would make for a very boring world.

I haven't listened to Todd for a long time for various reasons. I just stopped enjoying him, but have special feelings about and appreciate some of his remarkable songs and stories.

I know he mixes his songs and stories up from show to show but I missed him the last couple of times he's passed through here. I plan on catching him when he plays at the Clayton Center just outside of Raleigh next month. They also have Nanci Griffith (who's out supporting a new record) in April. I haven't seen her in concert since at least the mid-90s. I'm looking very forward to seeing her in concert again after so long.

I would love to see Nanci again. Saw her with Don McLean and Garth Brooks.
Another one of those magical nights of music.
From watching her videos, I feel like I have seen her a lot. The videos are so personable. I hope she comes to Texas.

I don't see any tour dates for her in Texas on her website but hopefully she'll make it out that way before her tour is up.

It has been said that she doesn't like to come to Texas because of the critics and reviews. Maybe that is all water under the bridge.
Hope so. She sure is part of Texas music history.

I hope so as well. Evidently Ryan Adams still has a stick up his a$$ about playing his homestate of NC. Hopefully one day he'll get over it. In the meantime, even though he's turning in some of the very best shows of his career (be sure to check out the Live On Letterman webcast if you haven't already), I'm not traveling out of state to see him.

That's one of the best Buffett songs ever. Probably in my top 5 favorites.

I love it too. Very cool to hear Todd do it justice. When I'm talking to folks about the island schtick-free Buffett, this is one of the songs I direct them to.

I'll pick-up that album just have another copy of that song. I don't even know what a Todd Snider is, although I think my brother-in-law's BFF used to do his website.

Todd was one of the first artists signed to Buffett's Margaritaville label back in 1994. Aside from "Beer Run", he's probably best known for "Talkin' Seattle Grunge Rock Blues", a hidden track (that was almost left off altogether) from his debut record, Songs From the Daily Planet. He's since had some of his songs recorded by a variety of other artists including Gary Allan, Cross Canadian Ragweed and Jack Ingram.

Todd also wrote "Alright Guy" that Jerry Jeff does regularly.

That's also the cover I was referring to that was done by Gary Allan.
On the Jerry Jeff tip, there's also this:

Jerry Jeff calls Todd his 'son' and has called Todd when he can't remember lyrics to his own songs.

Molly - I know how you feel about Todd, but he remains one of my favorites. And I finally converted Gary.
