Buffett Wedding
Here's the deal. My wedding is June 23rd and of course, we have worked Jimmy into the festivities as well. Our rehearsal dinner will be a nautical theme with Jimmy music playing in the background. Our dinner music for the reception is instrumental Jimmy. But, I am trying to come up with 5-6 songs that will resonate during the reception and get everyone involved. Of course all of us would appreciate things that are more rare and secluded..but, what do you think the top 5 Jimmy songs would be to mix in during a reception?
We're entering to "Hot, Hot, Hot"..naturally, two of the yellow album staples will end up being played for sure, Fins and Mville.
Thank you friends.

June 23rd is a fine day.
That's the day we got married in 2007.
A tailgate broke out at our reception.
I'd say just play what YOU guys want.

Re: Buffett Wedding
I got married last July and we did a 4 song set......Margaritaville, Fins, Changes, and Brown Eyed Girl. It was not easy getting a band in Canada to learn and play Buffett. They did and it worked out great.
We did it right after dinner where there were some speeches. Then the staff at venue brought out margaritas onto dance floor with a recipe I gave hotel
. (Patron, triple sec, lime juice, honey) It went over very well, though my wife is from Canada so not sure everyone had a clue what was going on.

Re: Buffett Wedding
This is a great topic. As a pro photographer who shoots a whole lot of weddings, I can totally get into this topic.
#1. If you haven't hired a band, go DJ as a DJ can collect any number of songs very easily, much mores than a band trying to learn covers and then doing a very lousy job of covering JB. But then you might give the DJ some leniency about what to play when. THey are experts at watching the crowd and seeing what the crowd best responds to, and it just might be mostly the yellow album, no matter how advanced your particular song tastes are.
#2. You must have favors, possibly leis? Having a favor that a guest can wear ratchets up the party immediately. If you hand out leis I promise that the minute guests put them on they will drop their inhibitions, and many will wear them all night. You two could have special leis, maybe multi colored leis (while everyone else has a solid color.) or maybe you can have real flower leis shipped in from Hawaii.
#3. Shark cake... Bakers today can do anything. You should go overboard with the cake, do something really fun.
#4. Bridesmaids in short dresses and flip flops. Grooms in Hawaiian shirts, or at least change to Hawaiian shirts for the reception. If you can't make yourself go for Hawaiian shirts, at the very least go with tropical ties and give your grooms and bridesmaids fun plastic sunglasses.
#5. Set up a photo booth during the reception and have it totally propped out for JB. Use a crazy Hawaiian backdrop/fabric, or maybe set it up like a thatched hut. Bring props that are totally island and JB.

Re: Buffett Wedding
I was married in the Great Woods parking lot last year (there are pictures floating around here somewhere), so Buffett literally played the reception
I did have a party later in the summer and did Buffett themed guest bags. Each guest recieved a cd with songs that linked to the snacks in the bag (Juicy Fruit, Tequilla, Rita Mix, mini shaker, gummi cheeseburgers, etc.) Guests had to find the link to the songs, it was a huge hit!

If we couldn't laugh...

Re: Buffett Wedding
Congrats. That's awesome. We had a Buffett wedding as well. Our first dance was Survive and we had A1A as the band. Our favor was a koozie that had a palm tree on one side and "love is a wave building to a crescendo, ride if you will, ride it with me" on the other side. We also provided cheap flip flops to all that wanted to change out of their shoes. The reception basically became a Buffett show (sadly without Jimmy). It was a great day. Everyone had a blast, even the non Parrot Heads. People still compliment us and want more of those koozies!

Re: Buffett Wedding
DS and DIL wanted poetic, but not sentimental quotes for their wedding invitations. My choice won
Some people never find it.
Some only pretend.
But me, I just want to live happily ever after, every now and then.
The song was on the mix cd they gave as favors... (DSD used it for the parents dance at her reception...)
And the entire wedding party must be in flip flops!

Re: Buffett Wedding
I've always liked the sentiment of "I Wish This Lunch Could Last Forever".......
I wish lunch could last forever
Make the whole day a first time love affair
We’ll begin with a kiss, such a warm place to start
Let me into your life, let me into your heart
Mea culpa mea culpa carnival’s in the air
I wish lunch could last forever

We’ll begin with a kiss, such a warm place to start
Let me into your life, let me into your heart

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but sometimes they have really good ideas....
