2012 Tour update

This morning on RM Steve talked about the upcoming tour. Here is what he said in a nutshell.

1. The Welcome to Fin Land Tour is running until April in the midwest.

2. The new tour will be starting in May.

3. Tickets and date announcements will be end of March beginning of April.

4. Jimmy will be doing a lot of songs that he hasn't done in a long time. Since Peter Mayer said earlier during an interview that Jimmy may do more albums like Volcano Live 2011 and he brought up A1A maybe he will be dipping back to some older stuff.

5. Steve commented about how people have been emailing RM and asking about the new tour and thought that Jimmy was retiring. He said it was not true.

Looks like we just have to wait a couple more weeks for dates and tickets.

During last year there was an article in USA Today about Jimmy releasing a recently rediscovered collection of pre Key West material that was found the closet of an old studio in Nashville. Jimmy said he planned to release the material in a CD set and was working on the release during the WTF tour.

I would make a guess that this is the older stuff mentioned in the item about the 2012 tour and he will promote the CD set throughout the new tour. Afterall he has no new album or book out this year so this could make the shows very interesting.

Jimmy seems to be quite nostalgic about the tour this year. During the Charleston Bing & Bong he and Michael were talking about going back to some of those smaller venues they played years ago.

It seems that he is doing just that and I feel that's a good plan for Buried Treasures or whatever he calls his new OLD project.

The “Buried Treasure” project includes at least 20 original songs and perhaps some cover material Buffett recorded in Nashville between 1969 and 1973 with original producer Travis Turk. “Two years ago they were going to sell the studio we were working at and owners said go through this and see if there’s anything you can use. He found 74 original songs I forgot I had written,” Buffett says. “It’s really, right back to the beginning stuff. … I’m going back and listening to myself during these times and it’s sparking stories. I don’t remember writing a lot of these songs but once I hear them stuff starts coming back. So I’m doing a narration through this material that we found. I’m going to do that as a project. They were tape recordings they were about to throw out. Some is cover stuff, but the original stuff there’s probably about 20 songs that I had forgotten I had written. … It’s something people might want to add to their collection.”

Apparently some members over at BW are upset the 2012 tour update was posted here at Buffettnews. I thought we Parrotheads were all "In the same boat" as fans of Jimmy? Apparently because BW was not mentioned as the first site the tour update was posted on they feel as though they were ripped off by Buffetnews.

OMG, how immature and frivolous is that? I honestly had forgoten all about BW until I read your post. Seriously, does anyone even post there anymore, and if so, why??? The last time I took a peek over there it was really dead! I remember when I signed up and started posting a long while back and there was very little activity. It was so boring that I lost all interest. Who knows... maybe it's a very happening place now???

Bw is the land of misfit parrotheads................and to be a misfit parrothead takes alot of work. You claim credit for a breaking announcement when it was Radio margaritaville that made the announcement.

The individual who posted the tour update that was broadcast by Steve on RM wanted to be recognized for being the one to post it on BW. I did in fact do a cut and paste from BW to here with absolutely no offense intended. What got me a little put off was someone on BW saying that BN had ripped off the original poster of the tour update over on BW. I take full credit for posting the information here on BN because I know a lot of people where getting very anxious over 2012 Summer tour dates and thought the information would calm things down a little.
