I have ABC 4001 with the black ABC label but it is the standard version. Does anyone have the white label version depicted in the link above to verify if that's the "hiking shoes" version?

The white labeled 45's were usually distributed to Radio stations for promotional air play of the songs. So you might check on Ebay and see if someone is selling a copy. Since the links are for my buffett site I just looked at the image of the white labeled 45's and it is indeed ABC 4001

This would make me believe that the white label promo isn't the BBC version either because they both have the same catalog # but it would be a help if anyone out there can confirm this. Otherwise, I'm looking for what the correct catalog # is for the BBC version.

The "Hiking Shoes" lyric was added after the song had been released because BBC Radio objected to "Hush Puppies" due to BBC rules regarding broadcasting of brand names. It differs because the white label 45 was not released commercially it was only released to radio stations for airplay. One lyric change in song would not have required a new catalog number from ABC. A similar sort of thing happened with the 45 release of the song Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes which was also edited for radio by altering the lyric "Good times and riches and son of a bitches..." to "Good times and riches and bruises and stiches..

A Pirate Looks at 40 is likely a 45 with with a stereo version on one side and a monaural version on the other. This would be due to the fact that radio was largely monaural in the 1970's mono/stereo 45's were very common practice back then. I cannot think of what would have been changed in terms of lyrics in A Pirate Looks at 40.

The Elvis Imitator 45 is likely a case of there being both a commercial and promo version of the 45 with the same catalog number
