I think for most folks, Memorial day weekend might be the first time they fire up the bbq grill. I'll have the smoker going by 6:00 am Sunday morning. I've got a 12 pound, bone in pork butt in the fridge. I'll be putting the rub on it tomorrow night and then smoking it all day Sunday. It'll take 8 to 10 hours for it to get done, but it's worth it.
Anyone else haveing feasts this weekend?

We are having a pig roast and paella party. Sixty pound pig goes on the spit Sunday at 7am. Loads of sides and fixins with that. And some Venezuelan friends are making paella in a traditional copper pan that is three feet across and goes over a propane tank burner.
Just praying that the weather holds out.

Have already fired up the smoker and grill this year.
This weekend though I think we're gonna just take it easy.
At the most maybe grill up some burgers and or brats.

I guess Carolinians are year-round grillers as we haven't stopped grilling regardless of the season in the 17 years we've lived here. But this weekend:
Ginger-Soy-Lime Marinated Shrimp in lettuce wraps and some "choice" beverages out on a boat in the middle of Lake Wylie.

My wife used to think it was odd that I'd go out in the winter and grill chicken or pork steaks (as St. Louis thing if you haven't heard of them). We've had snow on the ground a few times while I've been grilling. My main grill, a large propane one, is under a roof on the porch. Rain or snow, I can be out there and enjoying the smells of bbq.

I think we're just doing some brats on the grill, then simmer in beer with onions on the stove. Maybe a beer can chicken on sunday.
Shrimp wrapped with lettuce sounds amazing... omNomNom!

For one.. E is making 15+ pounds of sausage this weekend..

It's been a couple of years since he's made sausage, and I'm looking forward to it.

Last night with friends in the country started with my favorite spinach dip in bread bowl followed by fried shrimp and a wonderful potato casserole, salad, great grainy bread, ending up with bananas foster and Texas chocolate sheetcake. Yum.
Today is slow cooked BBQ ribs, fresh tomatoes, okra and squash! Love the fresh veggies this time of year. We'll have pound cake with HEB Peach Creamy Creations ice cream.

The start. Pork shoulder (butt) with a basic bbq rub.
The finished product...after half of it had been eaten. Also have a thin Carolina sauce and a mustard sauce to put on it. All homemade by me.
This one shoulder fed 10 adults with just enough left to make one more sandwich for a snack.
Every one was just oooing and ahhhing over how good of a butt I have. Well, had.
