Bitter Fans?

Post by FinsUp6835 »

I can't help but notice that sometimes on the forum people post bitter comments about jimmy. One in particular really grinds my gears. People are upset because he's coming out with different types of products, hotels/casinos, and all sorts of other things. We should be happy that these products even exist and it's your choice whether to buy them or not. Another topic is Jimmy's music. Obviously, it will be tough to top his songs on a1a and his other old stuff but that's okay. He's rolling with the times. He no longer plays for free drinks at the chart room, get over it. If you ever read any books about the man, he was always a business man as well. Who can blame him? He represents a lifestyle that has a huge market. It's not selling out. It's a way of surviving and becoming successful.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but if your such a hater why come on a Buffett news site and post on the forum? I'm sorry, it just really annoys me sometimes.

The man is a legend and we should be thankful that he still tours and has a good time doing it.

True he is a legend and true we do enjoy it.
However by being his loyal legion we are allowed to complain about his products and laugh at the absurdity of what they (the marketeers) expect us to line up to buy.
Once upon a time being a parrot-head meant something more than just being a part of a massive consumer base. We sold out show after show after show and bought the album as soon as it came out, then we bought the books just as quickly. The books begot the everything else and that begot (begat?) the tequila which became the rum which fatherd the beer which could only be properly mixed in the concoction maker with only the officially licensed mixer...... it seemed that we went from being the fanbase that fervently kept him going through the bad and the good to being a marketeers wet dream. And some where along the way someone said "We is being taken advantage of) .

You raise many valid points and I agree with several and I am very proud that I am able to consider going to Margaritaville Casino instead of the Hootie and the Blowfish casino or Lady Gaga's House O' Gambling or Pep Boys for that matter.

Jimmy still does us right that is why we are still here but in the great scheme of things it doth apeareth that we are merely wallets with legs....and coconut bras and hula skirts.
I may complain about what is going on but I am still for the long haul.

Good reply. I also agree with what you said. I'm still waiting for that Mville in Atlantic city! Maybe I just try not to complain, things can always be worse! I'll support Jimmy anyway I can, as long as it supports the lifestyle and he isn't making toilet seats or starts singing about fist pumping in the clubs!

PS I do love my Mville tailgating grill. That is a fantastic invention.

I can (and do) choose not to spend my money on JB's products other than his music. But I've never seen any reason to complain about it or criticize anyone else for seeing the matter differently than I do.

I will say this: I did have occasion to eat at the Margaritaville Cafe in Las Vegas when I was there last year...but I asked myself, if my favorite chef paid some musicians to record a CD themed after his or her food, would I buy it? Highly unlikely, and it was at least as much a matter of principle as of culinary tastes that steered me to eating at Outback instead. Like I said, though, I've never seen any reason to complain about his other endeavors just because they're not my cup of tequila.

I guess I could be one of those "Bitter Fans" Having been a fan of Jimmy's since the late 70's I have to say the music and the (fantasy) lifestyle was what captured me. Then slowly over the years he's grown more into a business man then anything else. No I do not begrudge the man his success as a mater of fact I envy his success.
Common who wouldn't want to have that kind of an empire? However I am and will always be a fan of said music and (fantasy) lifestyle and as such I have been deeply disappointed in the quality of the music he's put out on the last several albums, the concerts in my opinion haven't been much better. Which is why I haven't been attending any concerts in the last couple of years. Tailgate parties yes concerts no.

I personally believe the lack of quality in the music and concerts is because of his empire. He's just too busy with Margaritaville. I will close by saying I don't need every Margaritaville (insert name of product here) he has to sell. If Jimmy were to go into the studio to produce a new "Original" album then I would probably even attend another concert.

I was not born until the 80's [smilie=cheeky-grin.gif] but I understand your argument. My favorite albums/songs of JB are from A1A . I don't disagree with you there. However, I do disagree that the quality of his music and concerts lack. The man is 65 years old and his concerts have become more of a novelty. He looks like someones cool grandpa, in which you immediately say I want to have a drink with that guy and listen to some stories. Is his latest stuff the best? Nope. But its going to be hard to top his oldest work.I don't think theres much difference between his concerts now and if you watch something like Live By The Bay in Miami, which I believe was filmed in 1980? (could be wrong). I am jealous of you, that you got the chance to see Jimmy in his "prime" during the 1970's. But, I do enjoy his shows now and his storytelling. Back then, Jimmy was playing for beer and women. Now hes married, with kids and just wants to keep telling us stories. Im not sure if its possible to produce another A1A type of song. As for the products, I also dont need everything "Margaritaville" brande but people insist on buying me all that stuff lol. Anyway, I tailgate a lot at concerts, entertain guests at the beach, and camp a lot in the fall and I have to say I love to Mville grill (as i mentioned) and the cordless blender. I think those are the coolest things out there. I also am a sucker for the t shirts and "authentic" music memorabilia (though thats far from the mville brand). Ill collect old school jimmy memorabilia forever. And the restaurants the food is average at best but the drinks are cold and the atmosphere is what you pay for! I hope you decide to change your mind and join us out there on the lawn! "You can sail on my ship anyday!"

I'm far from "bitter" but I would love to see more concentration on the preservation of his back catalog. Remasters of those records on CD would be nice or even some vinyl reissues. Not that I would never do it, but I've yet to set foot into one of his Margaritaville stores, restaurants or casinos. I also haven't attended one of his concerts since the mid-90's but that doesn't make me any less of a fan. I still buy the new albums on the day of their release and try to keep up with what he's up to these days. Most every artist has a line of merch, it comes with the territory and has for a very long time now. It just seems that it crosses the line into crass commercialism at times (same for the casinos) but I'm also not obligated to buy any of that stuff or frequent his businesses. As a fan, it's more about what his music means to me.

I am in your wheelhouse and I went through this phase about two years ago. I went to his last show in Irvine and said it was my last show I'd ever go to, he'd gone too commercial. Then my daughter begged me to go to Vegas and I reluctantly agreed. I had a great time and it was a bit of an epiphany. I decided that I had take having fun too seriously and just let go and enjoyed the day. Three concerts later it's not unlike a rebirth of the whole discovery of JB.

BTW I really don't care if all of his albums haven't been as good as his first few there are still some quality song on them which is a damn site more than many artists can claim.

would you like me to demonstrate the true definition of "hate"?

because what grinds my gears is someone coming in here, ragging on other people's opinions with creds as good or better than yours on the board and calling people who disagree with you "haters". It's not like you know what the word truly means, much less have a perspective of scale.

you are entitled to your opinion, and if you think Mr. Buffett poops puppies and wee-wees rainbows, that's up to you. Some folks don't.

Did I tell people they can't have their own opinion? I think not. You need to chill out. Sorry if my "street credit" isn't up to your standard around here chief but guess what? Your the kinda guys I'm talking about. No one said anything about Buffett being perfect did they? Think not. Listen to the music and live the lifestyle bud. Peace and love. Sarcasm? He needs to come out with "quality" products, not s*** products. His Margaritaville Tequlia is something I wouldn't even server to my worst enemy.... Because of that, I will not try any of his other liquors.....

Yeah he has some food, I do not eat seafood, so I will not buy the shrimp, But ONCE---I was able to try some of the wings.... the orange peal wings were great, but no one sells them anymore.

His "Landshark Lager" is a joke. When it first came out, yeah I did buy it. Only a six pack. And let me tell ya this..... Me and my buddy each had ONE BOTTLE. Well, actually we coudln't even finish the bottle, because it was the WORST BEER EVER. I would have rather had a Busch or a Natural Light.

Personally I think Jimmy needs to stop thinking about Marketing, and focus on MUSIC.
Did you hear the one about me being a punk?
Did you hear the one about me being a drunk?
Did you hear the one about me losing my nerve?
Or how I'm just another f**** sheep in the herd?
Did you hear the one about me giving a s***?
Cause if I ever did I don't remember it.
