I say we pick a weekend, hit the Red Roof, meet at at Shaw's, rent parking lot 6 at GW, tailgate from early morning until evening, back to Red Roof, then off to the Cape in the morning. Or just cut to the chase and head for the beach. :)
we are NOT missing any of it next year. nope nope nope. more important to me than MOTM (since i'm on those islands)

Did someone say gathering at the beach?! As we proved last year, we will gather where there is a gathering. I just hope the board gives us that freedom. We are all friends and family. As Rodney King, and I am paraphrasing...why can't we all just get along.

There are some I have gotten to know that aren't on fb. This is the only way to connect with them since I hate talking on the phone.

I am stoked about the plans we are making for next year. Because it will make it bigger and better than this year. I hate to say it but if we need to bring the discussion elsewhere, so be it.

Are we planning on a show in 2013? Yes, hopefully there will be a show. But if not, there will still be a 2013 northern gathering, and there's nothing wrong with spending the next year planning and being excited about that. Nothing.

We do have a life. There wasn't too much response to this thread at first. Why? In part because due to a whole lot of planning and excitement and hard work on a number of peoples' part, many of us spent a good part of the weekend enjoying each others' company on a beach with no cell service.

I don't get the sarcastic comment, Dan. If you're not interested in the topic, don't open the thread. No on in this thread is bashing any other venue or part of the country, just getting excited about spending time with friends...... :-?
Jen, Tom, Tig, Mitch..... the first sentence....... was meant tongue in cheek. The second sentence (which I included myself in) is reality! I HAD typed a longer response....but you know what.......it's not worth it!

Then put a smilie on it so people can tell, because it sure didn't sound that way.....

I say again, Plan as if you will live forever, live as if you will die tomorrow, because nobody knows what's going to happen. So, no one should ever plan for anything? A wedding? Retirement? Where to go out to dinner Friday night?

If you wanna roll your eyes at that, okay, but you're coming across as really condescending..... :-? Clearly this thread irritates you. Then don't open it. There are threads where a) I know they'll irritate me and/or b) I got no dog in the hunt. I don't even open them.

Anyone who thinks the people posting in this thread need to "get a life" obviously doesn't know any of us. And by the way, when I see a thread title that doesn't interest me, or that's about a concert in a city I don't intend on going to, I don't open the thread. It's a skill that's easily mastered.

I know Andrew likely created this as a joke but this micromanaging is nothing more than someone arbitrarily deciding they want to have a power trip because they can. It just reenforces the reason why I hardly visit this site unless I am planning on attending a show.

The GW concert has become much more than a one day event, for many it is 2-3 day event and others longer. There is no harm in having a place to discuss ideas for next year which for many helps facilitate peoples travel plans. If there is or isn't GW concert in 2013 nobody gets hurt.

For some, this was our Super Bowl. But thanks to this board, even if there isn't a show, a whole bunch of us will still make plans for a huge flocking next year.

If I was going to Tampa, I would read it, but I am not so I won't. And if this weekend prompts people to go back to GW next year, so be it!

Some of us had 3 awesome days with friends to kick back and relax. Stress free. And yes Jen, my head was lowered today knowing the weekend was ending because it was priceless. If the thread gets shutdown because people are upset, so be it. But that will not stop me from figuring out a way to make a gathering next year. Now that I have gotten to know and love you guys, I can't imagine not planning another weekend away with you guys.

And yes Linda, that includes another trip to PA in Feb :D :D :D

Wow, I received a pretty nasty PM. It was posted for a few minutes last night then deleted; I guess the person thought it would go over better as a private attack. :-?

A year from now I hope we look back at this thread as an entire year of conversation between people who are excited about sharing a Buffett concert and a weekend with each other.

I agree Pat, there is no need for the over-moderation, and it's why I spend more time on FB than BN anymore......unless people are slamming each other or violating rules of conduct in some other way, why not just let it alone.
It's sad, but you can see the number of views and posts are way down....I remember not to long ago that the MSC thread would have 6 pages before 8am ET, but now it sometimes doesn't get that all day.....but the one thread that still gets as much traffic as it always has is the" Who's going to GW" thread, and they threaten to lock it up....I just don't get it.

Anyway, enough of the negative.....I had such a great time this weekend. From Red Roof-apalooza on Friday, the amazing tailgate that was matched by Jimmy's show, and then a couple of days on the Cape.
Gotta give credit to Tam for the Tonga Juice and the fire on the beach idea, Carol for getting the fire permit and figuring out the best place to do it, Marilyn for scouring the Cape and getting us the best deal on rooms, and everyone else for doing their part to make it another memorable Great Woods Weekend.

Jen, I missed you this weekend! This sounds like a perfect idea.
I knew this girl made of memories and phrases, who lived her whole life in both chapters and stages.
Danced 'til the dawn, wished all her worries away.

She's a long way from a West Nashville grand ballroom gown.

I didn't understand the problem when the thread was started last year and i don't understand the problem this year. It's for people who are interested in talking about it. We came up with some ideas on how to make next year even better and they are things that will take time and discussion to implement - and as we plan new events, more people may decide to make plans to come. Who are we hurting and what forum rules are we breaking by having this thread? Other than that Jen's post is spot on, it's about more than a concert but since that's the central theme that's the title for the thread. We don't make it exclusive either, it's clear that newbies are always welcome, that's why the crowd keeps getting bigger. Color me confused. :-?

Exactly! If we didn't talk about it, and share our plans as the excitement was building, who knows if the crowd would have been so big. Pam, you should have seen our heads hung low when we left the Eventide. It is hard to say goodbye! We are family, having a family reunion.

I think the problem is the forum it was put in and not the thread per se. I wouldn't want to be mod. It has to be as bad as being a umpire or referee.
