vacuum cleaners.....

Post by mason »

...the time has come to invest in a new vacuum cleaner. after 12 years of duty with me and an unknown amount of time with my sister, before she pased it on to me, this eureka brand machine has called it quits. if you have bought a new machine recently, what did you buy? is the sears kenmore brand worth a go ?
i prefer the cannister with bag. any pros or cons on this are welcome of course.

I love our Dyson! Yes, it is a bagless, but I open the canister and dump it in the garbage outside.

We usually stick to Hoover.
We have had other brands, but always go back to Hoover.
We are using my inherited Hoover from my Mother now....I don't know how old it is, but it is still sucking while the electrolux quit.

There are two things that NEVER work for me no matter the brand...staplers and vacuum cleaners!

However, the dyson I bought from my sister in law has been the best one so far...

we are going to make a purchase of a new one at some point this year. We currently have a Kenmore that has lasted 10 years with a few problems that Dave has fixed but keep re-occurring. I'm seriously thinking about the Shark Navagator Lift Away. I don't care for uprights but the fact that it lifts off and has a long reach is a plus. Has anyone here purchased one?

Dyson, Dyson, Dyson.
Unless you go with a REALLY high end unit ($800+) they continue to lose power over time.

We have an older Rainbow and it gets the job done. It has a water reservoir that has to be emptied and cleaned with each use, but it seems to control cat hair better than anything.

We don't have carpet, so we just use a Swiffer to clean in between vacuuming.

I think one of the best things about the Rainbow is using the feature that blows stuff out of cracks and crevices too, especially when I clean the windows. I can actually use it to blow leaves off the patio. It's great for cleaning the car too. It has great attachments. It's easy to store in a plastic container.

I had been tossed between Dyson and Miele. After extensive research, I opted to go with the Miele Delphi and I am very happy with the choice. Something bagless would have been nice, but this thing really does the job well. Worth every penny. If I had it to do again, I'd stick with this one.

Are they still making Rainbows?
I remember when they were all the rage...and VERY expensive.

I have a Shark and I've been happy with it. The only thing I don't like is that the 'dirt cup' is kind of small. With two dogs, I usually have to empty it once when vacuuming the whole house.....but it's not that big of a deal.

Did I mention we have a Husky with longer hair? She killed 3 vacuums before the Dyson.

I don't know what's worse.....the long hair....or the little short hairs that are like needles and burrow into EVERYTHING. Both of my dogs have short, coarse hair and there's no avoiding it.

We bought a reconditioned Orick several years ago. Been the best vacuum cleaner we've ever had, and pretty much bulletproof. Only had to have it serviced once. The guy cleaned it out a little and that was it. :-)

We love ours too. And the clear plastic canister is marketing genius! Every time we vacuum, Mrs. TR comments what a great job the Dyson does at getting up all that dirt! "Look at all that dirt!" Seriously, we have carpet and wood floors, and the Dyson has been good on both.

We have a Dyson and love it. Be careful on Berber, I've heard, because it will unravel it, but have no real evidence of that. Since we use our Dyson on our upstairs carpet and a different vaccum on our Berber downstairs. Hate hauling the thing up and down steps.

We also have a Dyson hand vacuum and adore that, too.

My parents had an Oreck. Very lightweight and seemed to do a good job.

I can vouch for that. If you have some loose strands and the vacuum catches them, it'll start pulling right on down the carpet. There's no easy fix for that. By the time you realize it's happening, it's too late.
