I know you're just being sarcastic but on that same topic..did anyone see the show on Discovery on Sunday night on the Mermaids/men? It was about discovering real mermaids and the extent that the government is doing to cover it up.

It was "staged" (faked) .... for dramatic purposes ....
In describing the show, Discovery says, "What if there's a kernel of truth behind the legend of this mythic creature? Is the idea of mermaids really so far-fetched? Maybe so, maybe not. The show itself, though science fiction, is based on some real events and scientific theory."
Doesn't really surprise me in a world in which some people believed Titanic to be a work of fiction. It seems like with the internet there would be even more ways to confirm the validity of such things but it appears to be quite the opposite.

Actually, the movie Titanic *was* a work of fiction. It was based upon factual events.

I'm reminded of the bit from Galaxy Quest (in which the aliens think that American TV is really "historical documents") in which someone asks, "Surely you don't think Gilligan's Island..."
