Ichiro could've voided the trade if he wanted to. He chose not to.

Guess the Yankees felt compelled to do something after being swept by the Oakland A's.

Had to scoop up someone with Gardner out for the season.

Yeah , but Jones and Ibanez has filled in great.....probably more power and RBI production.......they did it because i'm thinking Swisher injury is worse then they are saying.

And Seattle pretty much wanted out if Ichiro... Seattle is in yet another "rebuilding" year and it didn't make much sense to have a 38 yo singles hitter in right field. It will be interesting to see how this plays out in NY. After 11 years in Seattle, do you think he'll be able to have an interview in NY without an interpreter? Never happened in Seattle. Funny... any time he reached 1st, he could converse with the other side's 1st baseman, but he never said a word to the fans in Seattle in English. Never. Not in 11 years, not even when he said good-bye today. Hopefully he'll help the Yankees make a quick exit from the play-offs again. Go Tigers!

Gotta love sports fans.
Whatever happens, HAPPENS.
I agree the Yankees probably didn't NEED the guy-but I'm not the one making those decisions. They did go into a recent tail spin, but still hold a nice lead in their division.
As for the playoffs, they're ALWAYS a crap shoot for any team, no matter WHO plays for them. Just depends on who is hot at the time. Who would've thought the Cardinals would pull off what they did last year?
I said when the season started I'm not making ANY predictions as far as the playoffs go, because for all I know, the PIRATES could make fools out of the Vegas oddsmakers. That's about the only thing I got right all year.

I used to say that Seattle led the league in interpreters.
