Jimmy Buffett fan dies after being assaulted at concert
from philly.com...
A 20-year-old Bellmawr man injured after striking his head during a fight outside a Jimmy Buffett concert in Camden Tuesday night has died.
Ryan Coyle had been amid thousands of "Parrotheads" headed into the Susquehanna Center to watch Buffett when an acquaintance Matthew Shields, 21, came up behind him and punched him.
Coyle fell, striking his head on the pavement. He was rushed from the waterfront arena's parking lot to Cooper University Hospital.
Shields, of Westville, was charged with aggravated assault and sent to Camden County Jail on $50,000 bail. Authorities have not said what set off the attack.
Coyle's family released a statement Saturday, describing Coyle as an avid baseball player and prankster who "brought life to wherever he showed his face." He graduated from Gloucester Catholic High School, where he played on the school's state championship baseball team.
"Words are not enough to express the feeling of grief and loss that we have in losing Ryan. Ryan was gentle, kind, loving, full of laughter and goofiness," the statement read.

Re: Jimmy Buffett fan dies after being assaulted at concert
Something like this has happened at Great Woods a decent amount of times this summer. Not a lot but enough to notice.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.
Life is short, live long!!
I'd rather be a wiseass than a dumbass.

That suks; but from what I got out of APLATillman's post, it sounds like the assailant would have clobbered this guy regardless of the venue. Just too bad it was at a Buffett show; as Parrotheads we don't need this kind of publicity.

It has nothing to do with Buffett and tailgating and all to do with Camden.

This is where I try, but fail, to refrain from asking if they're going to ban tailgating as a knee-jerk response a-la Bristow.

They probably won't "BAN" tailgating, they haven't banned it after numerous events like rapes, fights, heatstrokes, etc. They will make it uncomfortable to tailgate for a couple years.FunkHouse9 wrote:This is where I try, but fail, to refrain from asking if they're going to ban tailgating as a knee-jerk response a-la Bristow.

Re: Jimmy Buffett fan dies after being assaulted at concert
CAMDEN, N.J. - September 4, 2012 (WPVI) -- Authorities have upgraded charges against a South Jersey man accused of assaulting an acquaintance outside a Jimmy Buffett concert in Camden last week. The victim died of his injuries three days after the assault.
The Camden County Prosecutor's Office says 21-year-old Matthew Shields of Westville is now charged with aggravated manslaughter.
He is accused of punching 20-year-old Ryan Coyle of Bellmawr before last Tuesday night's concert at the Susquehanna Bank Center on the shore of the Delaware River.
Authorities say Coyle fell and hit his head on the pavement in the parking lot after being hit from behind. He died Friday night at Cooper Hospital in Camden.
Shields was initially charged with aggravated assault. His arraignment was set for Tuesday afternoon.

How terribly tragic. Sail on Ryan, and prayers to his family and friends.

I wish I could say this surprised me. But given some of the obnoxiousness I've witnessed at the one show I attended (and heard about from the many others my friends have been to), I'm afraid it doesn't.

Re: Jimmy Buffett fan dies after being assaulted at concert
Whatever happened to everyone just getting a really good buzz on, maybe a little smoke, and getting along, and maybe even a little frisky behavior at the top of the lawn???? Its people like this that have caused me not to even want to go see the shows anymore and deal with the ***** these amateurs try to pull off to look cool to their friends.
Did you hear the one about me being a punk?
Did you hear the one about me being a drunk?
Did you hear the one about me losing my nerve?
Or how I'm just another f**** sheep in the herd?
Did you hear the one about me giving a s***?
Cause if I ever did I don't remember it.
