Beatles "Love Me Do" released 50 years ago today

Here's a link to a real nice article on this song from Rolling Stone as well as a piece that ran on ABC News last night. I was all of about a month old when this song came out. Being the youngest of 6 kids I'm sure I was surrounded by Beatles music growing up but my first real memory of them is when Walter Cronkite announced they were breaking up on the CBS Evening News in 1970. A couple of years later during a family trip to Europe one of my older brothers purchased their album Hey Jude (aka The Beatles Again) on cassette which made me a fan for life.

The 50th anniversary edition of the "Love Me Do" single which is due on the 22nd of this month. Apparently there was a snafu with the first pressing that may increase it's value. To read more about that, click here.

The Beatles recorded this with Pete Best on drums, and again with Ringo. Andy White then did a third version. The Ringo version ended up being released as the single.
