JB/Matt Hoggett
I am sure I will get flamed for this but....here it goes anyway.
I really want to like Matt Hoggett. I really do!!!! His Dear JB song is cool and I really do like that one. I have now heard his "Blender/Bender" song on RM and as much as I want to like it...he sounds like Larry the Cable Guy and I can't listen to more than half the song before I change stations.
Just had to get this off my chest!!!!

He has a few good songs, but for the most part I agree with everything you said. I will not be buying his album.

It'd be wonderful if the person Buffett was promoting had the talent to go along with the boost in popularity he's enjoying right now but unfortunately that just doesn't seem to be the case with Hoggett.
For the Hoggett fans, he got a nice write up on American Songwriter's website this week:

We saw him at the Grand Opening of the Margaritaville Casino Biloxi. Unimpressive.

If he hadn't written that "Dear Jimmy Buffett" song, Buffett wouldn't give a crap about him.

Lost interest in the article after this quote: “It’s really a cool thing to work for a boss whose motto is, ‘It’s 5 o’clock somewhere,’” Hoggatt says. That sum's up everything I hate about Buffett. Now just for the record I am still a huge fan and will be seeing Jimmy three times in 2013.

Re: JB/Matt Hoggett
Just fyi..... some friends at work got me the Matt Hoggatt album for Christmas. Listened to it a couple of times now.
He's really not a great vocalist. Some of the songs are actually kinda stupid. But..... it's like most other albums I've bought - there are 1 or 2 songs I like, the rest are meh. Surprisingly enough, the title track "Hotter Than Fish Grease" (which I thought was an AWFUL album name) isn't that bad.
That being said, the guy DOES have a sense of humor, which I appreciate. Would l I buy another album? Not sure. Go see him play? Yes.
Just my 2 cents.

You compare him to the great Larry the Cable Guy? If he were that cool we’d get a ‘Git-r-Done!’ in there somewhere.
I have worked on the business end of the entertainment industry for my whole career. Making it has nothing to do with looks, talent or skill. It all depends on do you know someone who wants to see you succeed who has the ability to make it happen for you and them. MH has that.

Re: JB/Matt Hoggett
I bought the album. First off, Matt has a compelling story. I like the album in someways; I find the songs clever: She put a bullet in his Earnhardt, Take my blender on a bender. However, the album is on the redneck side of redneck. I joked that the only thing the album was missing was a dead squirrel; then I discovered that there was a song with squirrels in it. I think that artists, at some point, need to stand alone from other artists. For me, there are way too many references to Buffett on this album, including references to Lulu. The songs are clever; however, for me they lack that deep connection to life that great art aspires to. I want to like this album, but I fear that this is Matt Hoggatt's fifteen minutes of fame, and the clock is running.

Re: JB/Matt Hoggett
It occurred to me while reading this post, how similar the name Hoggatt is to Buffett - coincidence, or is Hoggatt actually his last name, or was it dreamed up to be similar to Buffett?
Just my observation, it doesnt really mean anything.
