Yankees and Mets both win by one run.
The Yankees beat the Angels 6-5 and New York's OTHER team beat the Cubs 4-3 on yet ANOTHER blown save in the 9th inning by Carlos I'm An Idiot Marmol.
I will never set one foot inside Wrigley Field as long as that piece of garbage is on the team.

Re: 2013 Baseball Thread
I wish I was free tomorrow night to go to Fenway Park to see Wil Myers major league debut. He is getting Mike Trout level hype. I doubt he, or any rookie for a long time, will put up numbers that Trout put up last season but Myers sure is an exciting young player that could/should boost the Rays back into contention. The AL East has been a ton of fun to watch this season. Myers just makes it better.

All four teams in that division seem to be making a serious run for it.drunkpirate66 wrote:I wish I was free tomorrow night to go to Fenway Park to see Wil Myers major league debut. He's supposed to pitch tonight but unless he can hit he won't be much help. What a pathetic excuse for a major league team.drunkpirate66 wrote:Zach Wheeler will help the Mets in the rebuilding process.

Tomorrow at 7:10 pm, the Mets and the Braves will square off at Turner Field. It is a day that San Francisco Giants fans have been dreading for almost two years.
Before the 2011 trade deadline, the Giants were holding on to first place and looking to win back-to-back World Feb 21, 2013; Port St Lucie, FL, USA; New York Mets starting pitcher Zack Wheeler (65) poses for a picture during photo day at Tradition Field. Mandatory Credit: Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY SportsSeries. Despite losing Buster Posey for the year, the G-men were doing well but needed help producing runs.
The pitching staff was its usual dominant self so the deal made plenty of sense at the time. The Giants shipped their top pitching prospect, fireballer Zach Wheeler, to New York for Carlos Beltran, who was supposed to fill the void left by Posey's gruesome injury.
Giants sure could use some Zach Wheelr right about now

Met's come to SF in a couple weeks. The Giants have so many injured players Zach may be playing against most of his triple A team mates.CaptainP wrote:Yes, THAT one. That should even things up, the Mets have been playing with a mostly Triple A roster since opening day.Tequila Revenge wrote:Met's come to SF in a couple weeks. The Giants have so many injured players Zach may be playing against most of his triple A team mates.

Wondering if Baseball is moving toward playing younger players at lower salaries? Locally it's the A's business strategy, and they do better than just OK. I've heard Astro fans and Baltimore fans say watching the kids play this year is a breath of fresh air. On the other hand, what are they supposed to say

Re: 2013 Baseball Thread
The Brewers.
This season, the starting pitching was supposed to be suspect, but the bats were supposed to make up for it.
Not the case, but not really due to failures. Mostly due to injuries.
Today, Carlos Gomez (.313, 12 HR, 14 SB, GG Defense) got hurt. Add him to the list that includes, among others:
*Ryan Braun is on the DL with a thumb. Out until August
*Corey Hart has not played yet this season. out until ???
*Aramis Ramirez spent a month on the DL and has basically played on one leg since.
Last week, the Brewers fielded a starting lineup that included (regular starters in ALL CAPS):
C: Martin Maldanado
1B: Juan Francisco
2B: Scooter Gennett
SS: JEAN SEGURA (should be the starting SS in the ASG if not for the ballot-box stuffers in SF)
3B: Yuniesky Betancourt
LF: Caleb Gindl
CF: Carlos Gomez
RF: Logan Shafer
I think I'll just call this a lost season.

Re: 2013 Baseball Thread
Blue Jays win # 11 in a row.
All teams in the A.L. East are now over .500.
Yet there are those who still claim it's not the best overall division in baseball.
I hope those people get well soon.

Just for laughs I googled him. According to Wikipedia his name is David Dewitt Bailey. Homer is his nickname, it was his great-grandfather's name.Dr.Corona wrote:2nd of his career no less. Amazing in this generation someone named their kid Homer!LIPH wrote:No hitter by Homer Bailey of Cincinnati.

Re: 2013 Baseball Thread
30 year ago today- Dave Righetti's no hitter-
At Yankee Stadium, southpaw Dave Righetti no-hits the Red Sox to become the first Bronx Bomber left-hander to throw a no-no since George Mogridge accomplished the feat in 1917. Rags's 4-0 no-hitter is the first for New York since Don Larsen tossed his perfect game in the 1956 World Series.

First, it's AL and the AL uses the DH, and therefore it's NOT real baseball!Wino you know wrote:Blue Jays win # 11 in a row.

Re: 2013 Baseball Thread
This seriously happened in a MAJOR LEAGUE baseball game yesterday????
Buster Posey bats out of order in Giants lineup blunder
By Steve Corkran
SAN FRANCISCO -- It wouldn't be a Giants-Dodgers game without a little controversy to spice up an already heated rivalry.
On Saturday afternoon, Dodgers manager Don Mattingly sprinted out of the dugout as soon as Giants catcher Buster Posey reached second on an RBI double and pointed out to the umpires that Posey batted out of order.
The umpires consulted the lineup card turned in by Giants manager Bruce Bochy and confirmed Mattingly's accusation. Posey was listed as the No. 4 hitter, with third baseman Pablo Sandoval in the No. 3 spot. However, he batted ahead of Sandoval in the first inning.
So, instead of an RBI double and a 1-0 Giants lead, the umpires ordered Gregor Blanco back to third base, Posey back to the batter's box and the Giants charged an out -- Sandoval was credited with the out.
Posey flew out to right field on his do-over at-bat, which ended the inning. Sandoval remains the No. 3 hitter, with Posey batting cleanup.
Coincidentally, Bochy complained to umpires in a game almost three years ago when Mattingly visited the mound, walked away, then turned back and entered the mound area.
The umpires sided with Bochy and charged Mattingly, filling in for Joe Torre at the time, with two mound visits. That forced Mattingly to remove closer Jonathan Broxton.
The Giants rallied from a one-run deficit for a 7-5 victory.
"It cost us a chance to win," Mattingly said at the time.
