The time you finally heard THAT SONG in concert!

Post by krusin1 »

Just posted in the "Songs you desperately want to hear on 2013 tour?" thread and it got me to thinking...

Most of us have been to a few (many?) concerts. Was there a time you finally heard THAT song? The one you'd been hoping for for so long?

I'd been hoping to hear Cowboy in the Jungle live for several years and it finally happened in St. Louis in 2008. Made my night. :D Actually have artwork on my office wall with those lyrics.... "roll with the punches....." Kinda cracks me up when people look at it and can't figure out the reference. Those who truly appreciate this music get it instantly. LOL

Then, in St. Louis 2010 finally heard Take Another Road done live. IMNSHO, best version I've heard. Seriously. Download it and listen. Great way to start that song.....

Theres quite a few I could mention, but hearing Nautical Wheelers in 09, hearing They Dont Dance Like Carmen No More in '11, and hearing Lovely Cruise and Banana Republics in'12 for the first time where some of the highlights for those shows for me.

At the Nissan show in 2010 he got to one of my bathroom break songs, Brown Eyed Girl. I got back to my seat just in time to hear the opening notes of Brahma Fear. I turned to the people next to me and said "I can't believe he's doing Brahma Fear." They looked at me and said "What?"

Gods Own Drunk, Chicago, 2011. I started jumping up and down. I was ridiculously excited to finally hear it.
I knew this girl made of memories and phrases, who lived her whole life in both chapters and stages.
Danced 'til the dawn, wished all her worries away.

She's a long way from a West Nashville grand ballroom gown.

No Plane on Sunday at Great Woods, I think either 1995 or 1996.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Hearing Last Mango in Paris with Captain Tony just offstage (but on the big screen) was pretty neat. A few years ago in Tampa.

It's hard for me to say in regards to some of the early shows I saw (my first one was in '79 in Chapel Hill) since there are no setlists or recordings (at least to my knowledge) to refer to but I do remember being particularly tickled that he opened up with "Makin' Music For Money" at Walnut Creek in Raleigh on what I believe to have been the Domino College Tour of 1995. My only real reference point being that he also debuted "Diamond As Big as the Ritz" at this show from then the unreleased and to the best of my recollection, still unnamed, Barometer Soup, which didn't come out until August of that same year.

Who's the Blonde Stranger, this past year. It has been one of my favorites, but I didn't start going to shows until 2001 - the year after it was last played.

That was a special moment. That still ranks as my all time favorite concert experience. A close second would have to be at JIffy Lube Live (Nissan) this year when he ended with a medley of "Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season and Last Mango in Paris."

Last summer when MANY people were on their way out of Boardwalk Hall in AC and Jimmy came back to the stage all by himself, picked up the acoustic and started to sing Tin Cup Chalice. Heaven. [smilie=loopyblonde-blinking.gif]

For us it was "The Coast is Clear" (Gulf Coast Version) at the Concert for the Gulf Coast in Gulf Shores. Cat and I had actually witnessed the Deep Horizon burning in the Gulf on April 21, 2010 while on a tacky cruise ship sailing back into New Orleans. At the time, we didn't realize what we were seeing or the impact the spill was going to have on us and so many others that summer. There wasn't a dry eye on the beach that day while he and Mac performed that song.

He Went to Paris and Last Mango in Paris...Chicago in 2009.
Bama Breeze...St. Louis in 2010.

They are some of my (and my wife's favorites) and, to date, is the only time we've seen them performed.

Last tour, hearing Savannah Fare you Well and Chanson Pour Les Petits Enfant during the same show was awesome. And yes, Savannah gave me goosebumps as well.
