New Margaritaville Locations

Post by phrankbama »

On another board there were some discussions of a possible new Margaritaville opening in Falmouth Jamaica as well as venues actually appearing on cruise ships. Anyone hear anything about either of these?

My peeps are telling me that Jimmy will soon be converting all Starbucks locations to Mini Margaritavilles.

No rumors heard but I struggle with if I want one here in CO or not. I would absolutely frequent it but my worry would be that makes it less special to travel to one when we vacation. We don't only vacation in places that have an MVille but we do always visit the MVille if there is one where we're vacationing.

We were in Falmouth last year and they had a store selling Margaritaville tshirts, caps etc. It looked like they had just threw something up to have foothold while the Falmouth dock area was being built. The store didn't have a sign yet, but the credit card receipt was from Margaritaville Jamaica or something similar.

There was also a separate Margaritaville outdoor bar in the center of the plaza.

The whole Falmouth dock seemed kind of cold and impersonal to us. Lots of armed guards guarding the fenceline...no where near as nice as Ochi Rios IMHO.

I was in Falmouth this past week and confirm that a new Margaritaville was open for business. Speaking with the bartender, he indicated that they have been open for 2 1/2 weeks. It is located within the cruise terminal port for Royal Caribbean, and can not be accessed from outside the port.

That would be yummy, but if you were in Falmouth, you would most likely be visiting from a cruise ship, and would have a hard time finding that 'someplace local' in what is essentially a made-up village built to accomdate the super-sized cruise ships. I haven't been to Falmouth yet, but imagine it is something like what they did at Costa Maya, Mexico- near the very tiny village of Majahual, but most cruisers either take an excursion or don't leave the secured port area.

For me, if I was on a cruise that stopped at Falmouth, having the Margaritaville there would give me an exuse to actually get off the ship that day 8)

Either way, if it is inside the secured port area, that's one heckofa Cover Charge to get to that Margaritaville

Haha. That's one reason to not go on a cruise. But I like cruises. The big ships go to comparatively uninteresting ports though.

The 'regular' size ships. Or 'Mid-size' ships. All the sizes and cruise lines have their merits, but if you are on a mega-ship, you are going to go to Cozumel, Falmouth, St. Thomas, a private island, Bahamas. Maybe 1-2 other places. You have to go somewhere with a deep port and an extra-long dock, and that can handle the extra capacity of a couple of thousand more passengers. But the trade-off is a newer ship, with more bells & whistles, and so much stuff to do that you might not even want to get off the ship.

On a 'regular' size ship, you can go to more ports, including ones that you don't have to dock at, but 'tender' a bit away from shore and get ferried in on smaller boats about 50-100 people at a time.

And on really small ships, you go up rivers in Europe and to funny little ports that no one has ever heard of. 8) 8) 8) At least I think you do, I haven't tried that yet.
