Jackson Browne
So what's the deal with Jackson Browne touring with him? Does this mean that Jimmy will have a shorter than usual set?
Hmmm...maybe the shows with 28 or so song set lists are taking their toll on Bubba.

I have been wondering the same thing since I have been thinking about it more and more. Not too sure about this.

Re: Jackson Browne
Is he "touring with" Jimmy or just opening the TX shows?
And FWIW, I saw Jackson Browne several times back in the day and he put on a decent show. I'm not familiar with any of his recent stuff...does he even have any recent stuff? - but I can't imagine Jimmy would choose him to open and have him bomb out.

Re: Jackson Browne
Ilo played 3 songs. Jimmy still played 28 or so.
I can see Jackson Browne doing 15 and then Jimmy also doing 15.

No way. Good lord, if word of that got out after the first show or two there would be zero ticket sales for any more shows.Bucarader wrote:Ilo played 3 songs. Jimmy still played 28 or so.

I saw Jackson Browne at Jones Beach back in 1996 (I don't have total recall about concert dates but anal retentive freak that I am, I have the ticket stubs from all the concerts I've gone to over the years) and he put on a really good show. I thought it was a little odd that in a venue where the stage is built in the bay he didn't do "Rock Me On The Water" until about halfway through his set. And when we heard the inevitable call for "Freebird", he actually sang the first verse.lime rickie wrote:Is he "touring with" Jimmy or just opening the TX shows?

Re: Jackson Browne
I don't know about a 15/15 split but I can see Jackson Browne doing a 30-45 minute set and Buffett doing maybe 20 songs instead of 27. But if that's what he did it'll be just our luck that he'd drop even more of his own songs from the setlist and leave all the $h!tty covers tunes in there.lime rickie wrote:No way. don't be so sure. I'd be more likely to buy more tickets. I love Jackson Browne.lime rickie wrote:No way. Good lord, if word of that got out after the first show or two there would be zero ticket sales for any more shows.Bucarader wrote:Ilo played 3 songs. Jimmy still played 28 or so.

Re: Jackson Browne
I'd be okay with Jackson Browne doing a SHORT set. 3-5 songs. But not if that means Jimmy playing only 20.sunseeker wrote:don't be so sure. I'd be more likely to buy more tickets. For sure he would be brought back out for the inevitable Load Out/Stay duet encore, with Nadirah belting out the Rosemary Butler part.

I hope it's just a one shot thing or does not continue very long.
I know nothing of his, except that song from Forrest Gump and that song from Fast Times At Ridgemont High.

Re: Jackson Browne
And Buffett would have to come out during Jackson's set to do one song with him. Maybe the aforementioned Rock Me On The Water.

Re: Jackson Browne
I agree with Lime Rickie 3 song by/with Jackson Browne is plenty. Sorry to say but I am just as tired of hearing "Brown Eyed Girl" as I am "Cheeseburger".
Personally, I would rather see Mac and Peter get to do a couple of their songs, instead. Both are amazing artists on their merit. just my thoughts.

I just read he is doing both Texas shows. I couldn't find anything regarding the Virginia beach show.

Re: Jackson Browne
If Buffett's touring with Jackson Browne I would think it would be in a co-headlining capacity and not one in which Browne is opening for Buffett. If anything, Buffett should be opening for him. This is different from Buffett touring with Ilo Ferreira or Jake Shimabukuro in that Jackson Browne is much more well known than either of those artists and is usually headlining gigs, not opening them. If he is opening for Buffett (and not co-headlining), I very seriously doubt he'll be relegated to a 4-5 song set. Jackson's newest studio record is Time the Conqueror which came out in 2008. In addition to that record he's also released a couple of live solo acoustic albums in recent years along with Love Is Strange: En Vivo Con Tino, a double live album he did with longtime sideman David Lindley that came out in 2010. I caught Jackson during one of his recent solo shows when he played the DPAC in Durham, NC a couple of years ago. When the inevitable catcall for "Freebird" rang out, he actually played it (see video below). As much as I love Skynyrd, I much rather would have heard another of Jackson's originals, especially "The Loadout/Stay" (I've always loved the line that mentions "Richard Pryor on the video") but he evidently hasn't played that song in years. While I understand that Running On Empty is probably one of his most popular albums, he didn't suddenly drop off of the radar in the wake of that record's success. He's continued to tour, record new albums and be very vocal regarding his political activism by lending his talent to gigs supporting various causes over the years.

Re: Jackson Browne
Agreed 100%. I would be fine (ok, it would be awesome)with him showcasing Mac and Peter as an "intermission" or throughout the show to give JB a break. I loved hearing Jake and Ilo, but JB doesn't need an opening act.PartofthePhlock wrote:I agree with Lime Rickie 3 song by/with Jackson Browne is plenty. Re: Jackson Browne
While it would be very cool to see Buffett and Browne pair up for an entire tour, judging from the reaction here, perhaps it's for the best that it's only a couple of shows least the Parrothead Nation go into cardiac arrest. I'm curious to know what Jackson Browne's fans think. I'm wagering a guess that they'd be much more receptive to the idea and much more knowledgeable about who Buffett is compared to how well known Browne is to Buffett fans. Just an observation as a fan of both JB's.drunkpirate66 wrote:Looks like it is just a show or two . . .

Re: Jackson Browne
Love Jackson Browne. He's in the middle of an acoustic tour, so I think this is a one-time thing. Although with Buffett, this show will be with his band.
Back in the day, it was Jackson Browne headlining
