Going to see jake shimabukuro tonight!!!!
Jimmy Buffett discussion

I saw him a few years ago on my birthday at the Birchmere. Loved every note as I'm sure you will too. More money, more time and fewer responsibilities and I'd make the last minute choice to join you. I hate State Theatre though, so maybe not.jbfinscj wrote:Going to see jake shimabukuro tonight!!!!
Hey, it's all I've got. My limited vacation time opportunities overlap with this show. I'd consider skipping it in favor of making my family happy. But, I have free tickets and he'll play Nautical Wheelers if I skip it, in which case I'll never, ever let myself live it down. If Jimmy wants to keep me coming, he should simply never play it here. Once I skip a year, that's when it'll happen. I can't run that risk. I'm in too deep.surfpirate wrote:The FunkHouse9'er dude does .....jbfinscj wrote:Sigh why bother.....just let this thread die. What's wrong with the state theater? It's not my favorite, but they have brought some great acts in. I'm not defending it, just curious to hear your take.FunkHouse9 wrote:I saw him a few years ago on my birthday at the Birchmere. Loved every note as I'm sure you will too. I know right? I want to hear tin cup chalice and the one year I didn't go he played it.FunkHouse9 wrote:Hey, it's all I've got. My limited vacation time opportunities overlap with this show. The one year? You must have bad luck. I've heard him play it 2, maybe even 3 times in Bristow.jbfinscj wrote:I know right? I sat upstairs there many years ago for David Allan Coe and could not have been more uncomfortable. The seats were tiny and didn't have nearly enough leg room for me and I'm only 6'2". Perhaps it was specific to where I was, but I had a hard time just making it through the show unlike most other places I've gone. I'm sure downstairs is better. It's not nearby for me and there aren't too many people that interest me there, so I haven't made it back yet. I'll give it a second chance when the time is right, but I certainly won't sit upstairs again.jbfinscj wrote:What's wrong with the state theater? I don't think we are talking about the same theater. I'm talking about the one in state college, PA, not falls church, Va. David Allen Coe never played at the one in state college.FunkHouse9 wrote:I sat upstairs there many years ago for David Allan Coe and could not have been more uncomfortable. You're correct. I'm talking about Falls Church. Mac usually plays there whenever Jimmy is in Bristow and there's lots of discussion around here regarding that. I took it for granted you meant VA. Glad your ST is better than ours.jbfinscj wrote:I don't think we are talking about the same theater. I'm talking about the one in state college, PA, not falls church, Va. What do you think of Fall's Church? Worth a second chance for someone I'm only so-so about seeing?jbfinscj wrote:Yeah ares is an actual theater. John hiatt, Steve earle, rodney Crowell, and many more have played at our state theater. I have seen Mac twice at the theater in falls church.
Truthfully if Mac didn't play there and if I wasn't already in town I wouldn't go. It's not that great of a venue. The birchnere is far the better dining concert venue.FunkHouse9 wrote:What do you think of Fall's Church? I'd go there for Mac if he played separate from Buffett weekend. Pulling 2 concerts on back to back nights while my stay-at-home-mom wife works unpaid overtime is something I try to avoid for her sake. Aside from him, there are few, if any, that have played there that really catch my eye, so it hasn't been hard not to go back. Not to mention the David Allan Coe show I saw there was horrible, in stark contrast to the other time I saw him at Jaxx in Springfield.
I love the Birchmere. Just saw Stephen Lynch there recently. I don't get to do the dining/concert thing often enough.jbfinscj wrote:Truthfully if Mac didn't play there and if I wasn't already in town I wouldn't go. It's not that great of a venue. Just get tickets and go to the show already. I would have to think Mac would do a Friday night this year. If so we will be there. If its Sunday, I'll have to pass, we are heading to Florida for a couple weeks after Buffett's show.PA Parrot wrote:Really hoping to see Mac there this year if the timing works out. Otherwise it might just be hang out with "the" surfdude and tailgate at giffy grease with some new (and possibly old) friends.
Ha ha I forgot about "here come the mummies." They are such a fun band to see live. I first heard of them on the bob and Tom radio show.Staredge wrote:We go to the State to see Here Come The Mummies. Food is just ok, but getting a seat is more the goal. I like being able to be fairly close to the stage. Has pretty much spoiled me for stadium shows.
