Producers immediately seeking persons involved in or affected by the Florida Keys “Border” fiasco, inflicted on them by the U.S. Government in 1982, for participation in the movie scheduled to be filmed in May, 2013

Coyaba Studios is filming a documentary to be titled ‘The Great Battle for the Conch Republic’ in Key West. Their film crew will be in the Florida Keys shooting during the month of July-Aug., 2013.
Andy Crawford of Coyaba Studios, the film’s Producer explains: “We are seeking personal stories of peoples experiences, how their lives were impacted, and the clever and surreptitious ways they circumvented the stranglehold put on commerce, that impeded the livelihoods of residents during 1982 when the U.S. Government set up a ‘Border’ between the Florida Keys and the Mainland”.
This  ‘conchYOUmentary’ will look at the way these people were oppressed by, and then took-on the “Giant”, in their struggle to be freed from Washington’s strong arm tactics used in carrying out illegal searches and seizures, under the guise of searching for Illegal Aliens.
“We are in the pre-production stage now and looking for people who have stories to tell. If you lived through it and have a good story, and especially those who have ‘footage’; we want to hear from You, ASAP, to coordinate our filming schedule”, clarifies Crawford.
You can become part of this historical project. Learn about rewards given to anyone who donates to the funding of this project, at KickStarter.com

Having lived in Key West while running a TV Production company, we (my partner in crime Kate and I) know many of stories and “activists” of this fight for freedom from tyranny; of brave and desperate people seeking only justice, any way they could. A lot of the stories we heard are funny, but many more are not; some of these friends are no longer with us.
We really wanted them in this Conchyoumentary, but we can feel them in spirit tapping us on the shoulder and I can hear hear Captain Tony say to me “Son, come have a seat”. so please come out and help us make a film Possible and help us show the world what brave people do when it hit’s the fan..

Nobody else is going to say it, so I will.  This sounds like a Michael Moore-style documentary, where the producer and film crews come in with a preconceived notion — in this case, The Big Evil Government running roughshod over anyone in their way "under the guise of searching for Illegal Aliens"; pick and choose only the stories and sources that support said concept; and film and edit the final product accordingly.  Opposing opinions, stories, and the tradition of journalistic balance?  On the cutting-room floor, then tossed out the window and kicked to the curb.

Quite frankly, if the government had been that proactive about the 'illegal alien' problem in the 1980s (the same time as when Castro was emptying his jails during the Mariel boatlift) we probably wouldn't have had half the problems we ended up with as a result of these "political refugees".  Just ask some of the people who lived around Fort McCoy (one of the processing camps) in Wisconsin around that time.  Needless to say, if this ever does get completed I'll be paying about as much attention to it as I do to the Kardashians, pro wrestling, or the 9/11 conspiracy nutjobs.

This will not be a Michael Moore-style documentary, This film is about how a small group of people banned together and how they came up with this plan.
One of the main reason I want to shoot this film is to get the info to write a screen play. After living in the key for years I loved the story's and that's what I'm going after,
there are enough people make Michael Moore-style documentary this one will be a feel good video. and a 2 disk set The second story will be about Capt. Tony long time friend. . “Through the eyes of friends” an intimate look at the life of a Key West Legend Captain Tony Tarracino.
Thanks for at lest checking it out..

I didn't get that impression at all from watching the trailer or from reading the information on their Kickstarter page. Anyone that was paying any attention at all would have noticed they were using Cuban bread as weaponry and that the whole thing is very lighthearted and is meant to be humorous. I think a documentary on it would be particularly timely, especially given the ridiculousness of those that said they were going to secede from the United States just because Obama got re-elected. We all know how that turned out.

I saw him at Minges Coliseum a couple of times, which were my second and third Buffett concerts, respectively (my first was at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill during Apple Chill weekend in '79). The first time I saw him at Minges was on the tour for Coconut Telegraph. The second was in support of Hot Water when he was touring with the "Cheap Vacation" band. I'm not sure if you've ever seen it before but this is a link to an interview with Buffett that aired on CNN back in 1981 when he came to Greenville on the Coconut Telegraph tour.

Believe it or not, I actually remember those early concerts fairly well. I was off though, my third Buffett concert was at Carowinds when he played there on the Somewhere Over China tour in 1982. That was pretty memorable due to the thunderstorm that blew through which caused the show to be delayed for a few hours.

My first trip to The Keys was in 1979. The joint (pun intended) has changed since then.
I have nothing more to add except to say I am the proud holder of a Conch Republic passport
and was sworn in as a Conch Republican on 30 June 1995 at the Schooner Wharf
