Before the Boston Strong concert, Bing and Twang ( Buffett and Mac) announced that the release date for "Songs from St. Somewhere" is now August 16. The album is done, finished, ready to go.

I hope "Too Drunk To Karaoke" isn't an example of what the rest of the album is going to sound like. :o

Sounds good, the release date, not the album. I'm not crazy about the songs he's done live so far, it would be nice if he'd wrote the material.

I've said it before but I'll say it again. If he's incapable of writing decent new material, I could live with him recording well written songs by other songwriters. However, he seems to have lost the knack he once had for making other people's songs his own. He used to have a real gift for that, especially with tunes such as "The Ballad of Spider John". Nowadays, utter crap such as "Too Drunk to Karaoke" seems to be par for the course as to what makes the final cut for a lot of his records. That's not to say I don't like a lot of his latter day albums, as I think there's a lot of good stuff there. It's just tunes such as this and "Party At the End of the World" that tend to detract from the work of a once stellar artist. For a lot of folks, Buffett and Parrotheads have become a laughingstock. It's not to hard to see why.

Thirded.

Oldest Surfer on the Beach is a winner.

Have heard Something About a Boat Twice so far, once as part of the full show and once with just Jimmy and Mac when the Austin show was delayed...they played a little acoustic set and this song was much better that way.
You only have two options - havin' fun or freakin' out...

I can't wait for the new album. No gloom and doom from me, yet, although I haven't heard Too drunk to Karaoke yet.
I'd like to hear more steel drums.
I believe Robert Greenidge only appeared on 2 songs on the last cd, one of them the horrid "Turn Up The Heat".
Funny thing is, I love it musically but the vocals kill it, imo.
One thing I'd like to "try" to do this time is not listen to song samples before buying the cd.
August the 16th is a Friday and I'll have to continue my tradition of taking release day off.

If we're such a laughingstock, why don't you go play in some other sandbox? :-? :-?

Too Drunk to Karaoke, this album's "Math Sucks"...

Personally, I'm looking forward to the album. If that makes me a laughingstock, too effing bad.

Well, not a lot of folks here on this website. Maybe other places. And don't really care about their opinions. They're entitled, but I don't have to read their hateful words.

Believe you me, I've defended my Buffett fandom many times over the years to folks who don't understand it. However, that is a lot of folks' perception of Buffett as well as of Parrotheads. I'm sure everyone here, myself included, have attempted to explain why we're fans on more than one occasion. It's been my experience that very few are able to see beyond his image as the "Mayor of Margaritaville", the whole Margaritaville empire and the Parrothead fanbase. At some point, all of those factors started to overshadow Jimmy Buffett the songwriter. That's all out of his hands and I don't fault him for it as we all have to do whatever we can to survive but it is what happened.

I don't worry about it at all actually, I'm just speaking from my own personal experience, something I'm sure most everyone here can relate to.

I strongly disagree. There are loads of people on this website alone who appreciate far more than Margaritaville and all it has expanded to. Once again you find it necessary to be condescending and belittling the members of this board. Yes, you know plenty about music, but that doesn't give you license to be condescending and just plain rude. If so few of us are unable to rise to your lofty level of music appreciation, please do allow me to hold the door for you while you exit our puny, insignificant Buffett site.
