People made fun of him, but he was laughing all the way to the bank.

I saw a stack of his albums in a thrift store a couple of days ago and found myself wondering if he was still alive. Sail on Slim - I was never that much into yodeling personally, but your music no doubt made a lot of people happy over your long career...

I think there was a hoax back around 2010 or so that he'd passed. Along with Roger Whittaker and Boxcar Willie, I think he'll be best remembered for his informercials. At one time I remember it being advertised that he'd sold more records than the Beatles and Elvis in England but I believe they had to change that. In this particular informercial it says, "biggest selling record star in TV music history".Harbour Shark wrote:I saw a stack of his albums in a thrift store a couple of days ago and found myself wondering if he was still alive.

I'm going to take a reputation risk here (as if THAT were possible) and say I found his songs VERY enjoyable to listen to.
Sail on, "Mr. La Paloma Blanca." You brought so much happiness to so many.

It seems today has defied the "they die in threes" theory.SchoolGirlHeart wrote:Sail on Slim. Too many good folks departing today.
