While on routine patrol along MN State Highway 210 at mile marker 197 just east of McGregor MN I observed a vehicle travelling in excess of the posted speed limit and instituted a traffic stop on said vehicle. I approached the vehicle, identified myself, and found that the vehicle was being operated by Mrs. Jane Doe (name changed to protect the guilty), age 71. Mrs. Doe was the only occupant of the vehicle. I asked Mrs. Doe for her driver's license, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance; Mrs. Doe retrieved the requested material from her purse and handed them to me.
While the purse was open I observed, within the purse, what appeared to be a handgun. I asked Mrs. Doe if she did have a handgun in the purse. Mrs. Doe answered in the affirmative and removed a .38-caliber Smith and Wesson revolver from the purse. She also volunteered the information that she did have a Concealed Carry permit and furnished documentation of this.
Something about the way in which she did this — her body language, or the manner in which she had spoken — made me ask her if she had any other firearms. She admitted that there was a 9-mm Glock automatic in the center console of the vehicle and brought out that weapon as well. I asked her if this was all the weapons she had in her possession and she stated that her deceased husband's .45-caliber Colt automatic was in the glove compartment and produced that weapon for inspection as well.
I then asked Mrs. Doe what it was that she was so afraid of.
Mrs. Doe replied, "Not a dambed thing!!"
