It was an Asiana Airlines flight. Coming from Seoul, SK

The guy on CNN says the plane "cartwheeled" .....GOOD GRIEF !!!
Another witness said they heard a "POP" and there was a fireball.

The local Fox station has a helicopter over it. If you follow the trail of the plane from impact to where it ended up, it's kinda crazy. And looks like the pilot landed way too soon before the actual runway.

From the debris field it looks like the tail must have been extremely low and struck the seawall. In carrier aviation we call that a ramp strike.

So far, two confirmed deaths, 61 injured.
Most likely both numbers will rise.

Boeing had better pray this was pilot error and not a glitch in the ALS software.

My BIL, 25 year pilot with United, landed there last week, says ILS, PAPI were out, no electronic assisted approaches were available to that runway, strictly raw visual, rather tricky when the final approach is over water. Looks like Asiana was too low, over corrected and the tail hit the seawall.

Since the airplane was first introduced into service 18 years ago, the 777 has flown almost 5 million flights and accumulated more than 18 million flight hours. The is only the second major accident in the 18 years the 777 has been in service, and the first involving a fatality. It is probably the safest plane in the sky.

SOMEONE — God, Allah, Buddha, Jehovah, the FSM, take your pick — was definitely watching over this flight.  All of the 307 people on board (291 passengers, 16 crew) have been accounted for.  There are only two fatalities, both passengers; 181 others were taken to local hospitals where 49 are still in 'serious' condition and 5 are listed as "critical" (the rest were treated for lesser injuries such as abrasions and fractures).  The remaining survivors walked away uninjured.

Needless to say, this could have been a HELLUVA lot worse.

They had a couple of people that were in the crash on the news , physically , like nothing happened to them in the crash , which is amazing....what is more amazing, is how the crew got everyone off the plane in 90 seconds , and 1st responders were there in 3 minutes.

less than 100 hours on that airframe seems a bit light, especially w/ those landing conditions.

Now I'm hearing one of the fatalities may have been caused from getting hit by one of the rescue trucks enroute to assist the survivors.

I doubt she was killed by the truck. You fall out of the back of an airplane at 125 mph and hit the runway the truck is the least of your problems. I'd bet she was dead long before the truck hit her, if it did hit her.

Yes, I get it. It's in bad taste, true. But sometimes bad taste can be hilarious.
