I wasn't behind home plate. I was sitting on the third base side between third base and the outfield, three rows back.
The various TV stations here carry the games of all the nearby teams (Cubs, White Sox, Cardinals, Royals, Brewers, and Twins). The Twins usually have low attendance at their games, especially during the week, even though the next day was a holiday. Since there weren't that many people there, I was fairly easy to find. He saw me when a foul ball off one of the Twins players landed about four rows in back of me and the TV cameras showed it.
When he saw me at work the following Monday he said to me "20 years ago NOBODY could've stopped you from catching that ball."
I asked him WHAT ball.
Then he told me.
And I began looking for a crack in the floor to crawl in and hide.
And that's when he made his statement "I guess you don't grow balls THAT big overnight." (Followed by him smiling, slapping me on the back and saying "See you tomorrow," and walking away.
