Margaritaville New Orleans - Everything Must Go ???

Post by Bob Roberts 1468 »

Anyone know what's going on a M'ville New Orleans? They are having an "everything must go sale" with the whole store 45% off. The last time we saw this was when the Charleston store closed. Did I miss something???

I got that email too. I can see the Charleston store closing because there wasn't a restaurant there. This is odd.

My only thought is that maybe they store and restaurant are moving but it's not a bad location now... although it is "small" compared to Vegas, Myrtle, Orlando, etc. and store isn't attached. Will have to watch this one..

I've wondered if JB has expanded his empire beyond what it can sustain and if there will be an inevitable collapse. For example, the Margaritaville game was a colossal failure. The New Orleans Margaritaville simply could be relocating or restocking. Or this could be a sign of a company that has expanded too far. Too bad that JB has become a company. I do miss the days when the music was just about the music. Then, again, maybe it never was.

It does look that way, even the books and CDs are on sale - that's not restocking, that is usually see ya later...

Believe you me, there was a time when it was. When the Parrothead thing and the Margaritaville, Inc. side took off the quality of his music took a nosedive and has never really recovered.

It's not an "Everything Must Go" sale.
It's a "45% off Everything"

The email I got from the store said "Everything Must Go, 45% Off Storewide" and the website now says "45% Off Everything". It's not looking good.... :(

I wonder if this is consolidation. All the individual Margaritaville on line shops disappeared last year except for Key West, NOLA, Charleston & Caribbean. The other locations were "absorbed" by the Margaritaville Lifestyle on line store, where there was no location specific stuff. Perhaps you will only be able to buy the Lifestyle gear unless you are physically at one of the restaurants/stores.
Be good and you will be lonesome.

Maybe they are closing it to free up funds for the Margaritaville Branson Buffet and Hula Hula Review Show Theater?

Maybe they are planing renovate, and it is more cost effective to sell off stock at a reduced price than to store it.

I can't believe this location in particular would close. I certainly hope not.

Just spoke to the store. The employee said that the retail shop is closing on Jan 1st. The cafe will always be open as it always has been. New Orleans signature merchandise will be available for purchase online. They also expect to sell some pieces in the cafe.

I hate to see this happen as it was the first Margaritaville store we were ever in and was so impressed with the customer service we received and the quality and quanity of merchandise.

My personal opinion is it is a business decision based on sales and the current economy. With so many people out of work and lack of job security in general, people probably just don't have the extra money to spend on their 'wants' as much as their every day 'needs' and thus resulted in less revenue for the store. Given the choice, they are probably choosing to spend what money they have in the cafe on food and drink instead of merchandise. And, the reality is that the store has to make enough to be able to stay open.

Sorry to see it closing. Given the store's size and location, I am wondering what will go into the space (visible from the street on 3 sides, but a fairly small, long and narrow store).

Disappointing news about the store, but happy that the restaurant is staying put. I wonder if the store space will be additional dining space, or if it will be sublet for something else. It always astonishes me the lines of people waiting to get into all of the restaurants - maybe they thought best to pack in more diners spending money than browsers in the store. I mean come on... we can only use so much Margaritaville stuff. It's not like the stuff we buy wears out or is disposable. I've got boxes full that sit untouched for years.
