New Year's Eve - Things to do at the party?

Post by krusin1 »

For a few years now, we've hosted a NYE party for a group of friends/families (about 20-25 people total). They must think it's an okay time, because they keep coming back.

But...

We always seem to struggle with planning what to actually DO at the party. There's plenty of food/drink and always a game on TV, but it has always seemed like there ought to be... something... (activity/game/whatever) more to do.

If you've got ideas, I'd love to hear them. Thanks in advance. :D

Cards Against Humanity if they have a sense of humor, which I am sure they do.

We laughed so hard, it is crude, rude and just plain wrong. :o Not for the serious at heart but what fun!

Pictionary is fun too since most of us can't draw and we look like fools trying.

Put on the Jimmy Buffett box set and have a sing-along.

The other thing — just because you're located north of the Mason-Dixon line, why sit there and shiver?  Turn it into a Key West-themed New Year's Party with tropical drinks, flip-flops, and palm trees.

Drag queen in a high-heel pump being dropped from the roof is optional.

We usually have a fire pit in the back yard that we hang around. Sometime we have fireworks.
We sometimes dance or have the tv on a NYE special more as background noise while everybody's gettin' fitshaced.

How about a New Year's Eve theme costume party? Baby New Year, Father Time, Dick Clark, etc...
You only have two options - havin' fun or freakin' out...

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I'd probably go with the Key West/JB theme stuff, but not all those coming would actually "get it." :-?

I think we've settled on "South of the Border" type stuff. Tortilla bowls, fajitas and fixings, margarita punch, some cinnamon tequila (cuz it's COLD here), Mexico-style brownies (laced with cinnamon and vanilla) ... that kind of thing. Gonna set the kids up with the Wii in one room and movies in another. Grown-ups will have the bowl game on, some music, and probably a bonfire out back.

And, of course, fireworks at midnight. :D

Thanks again for taking the time to post. Always good to know my BN friends are still hanging around. :D

LOL. Y'all are awesome.

Party went great. We did the South of the Border thing. Food was great (and the friends all brought way too much.) The punch we made (lots of citrus, white wine, champagne, 7 up) was GONE. The other big hits were cinnamon tequila, and a coffee-flavored Patron tequila (very sippable and smooth.)

Everybody watched the Duke/Texas A&M game, laughed, talked, and just had a good time. Fireworks at midnight to wake the neighbors. :pirate:

Thanks again to all. (And anybody who can make it is invited next year! )
