This will be my first visit to Jones Beach. For my daughter's boyfriend this will be his first Buffett experience. We are staying at the Extended Stay in Bethpage. For those of you who have been there before are certain parking lots better than others, are you given a hard time if you set up a canopy (Camden tries, in vain, to forbid it), grills, games, etc.? How much time should I allow for getting from the hotel to the venue and are there stores along the way to pick up bags of ice? So looking forward to this!!! [smilie=battingeyes.gif]

Parking Field #5 is the closest one to the theater. When that's full, field #4 is the best alternate choice but it's a much longer walk.

I don't remember anyone having a problem setting up EZ-Ups in the lot at any of the shows I've been to at Jones Beach but the lots are concrete so there's no way to anchor them in the ground. Propane grills are OK, I'm not sure about charcoal.

I don't live on Long Island anymore and I have no idea where the Extended Stay is but Bethpage to Jones Beach is probably 1/2 hour or less. If you can find your way to the Wantagh Parkway, just go south and it takes you right to the beach. You have to pay to park, last year it was $10, and there's a toll booth on the parkway on the way to the beach. Pay the fee, get the ticket and leave it on your dashboard when you get to the parking lot.

For ice, you should be able to find a supermarket, deli or convenience store along any of the major roads in the Bethpage area - Stewart Ave., South Oyster Bay Rd., Rte. 107, Hempstead Turnpike (a/k/a Rte. 24).

Jones Beach is a state park which is supposed to mean alcohol free in NY. Pour your drinks in a cup and don't walk around with a beer can or bottle in your hand and you should be OK. Generally speaking, the State Park Police won't bother you unless you give them a reason to.

We've been setting up the Always Five O'clock Tiki Bar and giving away free shots for the past seven years. Jones Beach staff are great and so are police. They don't hassle about beer bottles and cans the only thing they ever asked is that we not display liquor bottles on the bar. Some of the best set ups you'll see and the crowd is always fun loving. Canopies are fine, grills, pools, not much that they DON'T permit but everyone cleans up their areas which is why they don't hassle.
You will have a blast, Fins Up!

Don't forget to stop by the bus lot and look for "Sharky's" bar (you'll see the big wooden shark). Margaritas and music start flowing around noon.
