I don't know what the "best" one is but this is definitely my favorite.

I would get the LIVE DVD--The One And Only

I like Night After Night most because that was the band/sound when I started listening to him.

The live show with JB at BDB is also good live music.

Believe it or not, I don't think I've heard Night After Night, Imma have to check that one out. Still so many selections missing from my Jerry Jeff collection even though I probably have over a dozen or more of his records.

I've always loved this one from Live At Gruene Hall:

I got rid of Night after Night. The tracklist was good but the sound quality is not that good. Lots of echo.
My fave would be Live at Gruene Hall.

Just listened to Cowboy Boots & Bathin Suits!
No Jerry Jeff fan should be without it.

Kinda sorta hoping deep down Jerry Jeff will join the Coral Reefers tonight in Austin for Railroad Lady and THOSE WERE THE DAYS! I think that one is by Keith Sykes.

Great album but isn't only one cut from it live?

Agree on both points! I was hoping we would have seen JJW with Bubba the other night as well.

As far as live albums go, Night After Night is the best "greatest hits" type of live album. Live at Gruene Hall and Viva Terlingua are the best "live" albums I think.

I'm honestly surprised not to see more votes for Viva Terlingua, it's a bona fide classic in my book and not just by Jerry Jeff Walker standards, it's one of my favorite live records of all time. Still not sure how Cowboy Boots and Bathing Suits entered the picture. It's one of Jerry Jeff's best but it's not a live album (save for that one cut).

I think Jerry Jeff would want us to think of CB&BS as "live." He kind of recorded it that way.
Just as Todd Snider does a lot of his albums to sound "live."
I think Jimmy B. does that some too. It's interesting to listen to many songs they try to make sound like live recordings.

Understood and I know lots of artists go to great lengths to capture their live sound on studio recordings but only one track on Cowboy Boots and Bathing Suits was recorded in front of a live audience (at least to the best of my knowledge) which is my definition of a live album.

I've heard songs on JJW compilations that supposed were pulled from Viva Terlingua and to me they did not sound live.
I don't remember hearing any applause. Maybe there were not many people there.

You're right about that, Michael.
It's lively sounding, but little crowd clapping or introduction of songs, except for "this is by Ray Wylie Hubbard. Uatwrm sounds a bit live.
There's a lot of crowd cheering on LHB for Gary P Nunn encore.

9 songs is not much of an album.

Viva Luckenbach is much better.

Always had a soft spot for this one as a closer, though "Up Against the Wall Redneck Mothers" obviously gets more attention. Another reason why it's a personal favorite would be because it's the first Jerry Jeff Walker album I ever heard (at least to the best of my recollection). Though it's not always the case, I tend to learn towards "point of entry" records as favorites.

What's the consensus on A Man Must Carry On? I don't think I've seen anyone mention it. I've heard it but it's been eons. I seem to recall a bit of 70's bloat.

What about "A man must carry on" great album!! Kinda like Buffett's "you had to be there". Some rough parts but overall a very good album

Thanks for weighing in, I asked about it a few posts back. I believe portions of it appear as bonus cuts on some of the new Jerry Jeff reissues on Raven Records.
