. . Nadirah recently posted she is interested in doing another CD . . but is undecided on what type of genre . .

. . I have it on " good authority " that she would again appreciate suggestions from us . . BN . .

. .as many of you remember, she also sought us out for her " Nod to the Storyteller " set list . . and was kind enough to mention us in the cover notes . . ! !

. . sooo . .what type of music would you like to hear her do on this one . . . ? ?

. . my # 1 goes to BIG BAND SOUND . . . her " Henry " song has been my favorite since the first time I heard it . .

. . how about you . . ? ? . . . jazz . . blues . . . ? ? ?

. . trust me, she does appreciate our input . .

I would respectfully disagree. Nobody but Shirley Bassey should sing Goldfinger. But if it's a James Bond song you want, I'd go with For Your Eyes Only. I'd like to hear a good version since the original by Sheena Easton was awful.

Another one, ZZ Ward's Last Love Song.

Just about anything by Melody Gardot.

Hello Friends, It has been a while since we last spoke and it has been 6 years since the release of Nod to the Storyteller! It is time for a new CD once again I call on you for guidance. There is so much music great in the world and an album can only contain so much I have been wavering back and forth on whether to focus on one genre or mix it up. The other option is to make more than one album but that gets expensive. Sigh....

So if you know me you know I love dance music or what we call House Music so there is that but for our purposes let's talk about the Blues. I like some blues, a lot. The kind that makes me laugh at life and the kind that reminds me of all we have in common as spiritual beings having a human experience. It touches on emotions and experiences that makes one shake their head in agreement. Know what I mean? We have all lost loves or had a bad day right? So blues is something most of us can agree on.

Big Band Swing? I have had a few people write they would like to hear me sing and swing. I never really thought about it but it certainly sounds like fun! I will do a little listening research and see how it feels to me. If you have any songs in mind please list them because I don't know many songs of the genre. I guess it would fall under jazz which I love too but is that what you would be interested in hearing from me?

Reggae/Tropical: Indeed. Island music i always great! I love roots reggae myself.

You may wonder why I as an artist ask you instead of just doing what I choose. Well I have spent almost 20 years with Jimmy, getting to know you. You are the ones I spend most of my musical life in front of and I like to think we have cultivated a relationship. Some have become very special relationships (you know who you are) and I know how blessed I am. There are very few that have the opportunity to sing with an artist like JB in front of consistently sold out audiences and it would just be silly not to acknowledge the blessing that it is.

So...give me something new to consider please. Something new to learn. Something new to give you for all the love you have given to me.

With Much Love, Appreciation & Anticipation,

Nadirah Shakoor

. . you should know you always have many fans and friends here . . and I/we can't wait to perhaps hear which direction this new CD takes you . . .

. .regardless, please know we'll always be your support . .

LOVE the blues idea. Ana Popovic released an LP about a year ago called "Can You Stand the Heat". I can envision your vocals on something like that (great sounding 8 piece band). Or if you wanna go off the grid a bit I can picture something like Rosie Ledet's "Come Get Some" (zydeco flavored)! Of course you belting it out with a Harp man (u got Fingers number) would be awesome as well!

Good Luck whatever you decide!

I've been getting ready for Jimmy's show at "Woodstock" later this summer
by listening to some of those 1969 performances, .... a lot of Janis Joplin as well as other artists.

I would love to hear your take on something from Janis, either "blues Janis" or even "rock Janis".
... your interpretation of Piece of My Heart, Bobby McGee, Little Girl Blue .... so many amazing choices.

Hi Nadirah,

I personally would love to hear you cover first and foremost:

The Neville Brothers (especially Yellow Moon, Can't Stop the Funk, Love Spoken Here, Congo Square...)

&

Solomon Burke (Down in the Valley, Got To Get You Off My Mind)

I think a great album would stick with a New Orleans Jazz and Funky Soul Sound with some Blues and Reggae Highlights...

I anticipate what the final outcome will be...just have fun with it and I know it will come from your heart.
Thanks for allowing us to have input on here...

There are a few Ralph MacDonald songs that would be perfect for you!
And there are a couple of Mac McAnally tunes that would fit your style....

My sentiments exactly!

I posed the question to Ray, and this was his reply:

Oooh, blues sounds good! I'd also like to hear her take on some Trip-Hop (like Portishead, Massive Attach, or Morcheeba), or her vocals on some mellow EDM (Electronic Dance Music)!

Kudos to Cindi for wanting to open the conversation on BN as well.

I only hope we might somehow find ourselves at another Nadirah CD Release Party at Margaritaville in October!

The John Hiatt thread put this one in my mind.. I'd love Nadirah's version!

Oh and if I were to vote for a Jimmy song it would be Love and Luck!
