What happened to this place?

Post by Rabbitz »

I admit I have only been hanging out here for about three years, but in that time where did the bonhomie and esprit de corps go?

For those not directly involved in the so-called "discussions" that inevitably degenerate into sh1tfights regarding merchandising and whether Buffett is no longer a musician but merely a corporate raider and has sold his soul to the corporate devil, it is very very very very boring. Deathly boring.

We get it.

Some of you don't like the commercialism or the Margaritaville Inc. evolution.

We get it.

Some of you think the ticket prices are too high.

We get it.

Some of you think other artists are more "real".

We get it.

Some of you think Buffett has "sold out".

We get it.

The thing is, we get it but a lot of us just don't care that you think that way.
We've heard you opinions, we've engaged you on those opinions, and because you keep blathering on about those very opinions we've stopped listening.

We get it, but now you are boring us to death.

What happened to the light banter and massively friendly atmosphere?

What happened to the light hearted discussion and repartee that Parrotheads seemed to pride themselves on?

Please stop turning each and every thread into some sort of evangelical crusade to rid the world of Buffett inspired commercialism.

Life is too short and there are too many islands I haven't seen to be bothered read that kind of sh1t.

It's funny, I have spent a lot of time on coral fringed specks, and given the angst being suffered from some here, the solution is right in front of you guys - FFS get some sand between your toes, a seashell in your pocket and get submerged in some saltwater to get the sand washed out of your metaphorical VJJ. You will live longer.

And even if you don't live longer you will have lived better.

This is only one of a few boards I'm aware of where discussions such as the ones you've described above should be swept under the rug in favor of "light hearted discussion and repartee". I have no problem discussing Buffett past and present but I also see no problem in discussing topics such as the current state of country music or other artists in general. With very few exceptions, those type of discussions seem to be frowned upon here. Hell, some members have even shot down the notion that this board should include a separate forum devoted to music aside from the Related Artists forum. Talk about "boring".

Aside from that, part of the reason this board is in the state it's in is because there's very little traffic here as compared to the past due to the advent of social media sites like FB and Twitter. In a recent conversation here, someone said one of the reasons they post here less is because BN is not mobile friendly. Perhaps adjustments could be made to the board to make it more accessible to those using phones.

Hi LR,

Well I have certainly bitten off a whole big chunk. It isn't more than I can chew - but I am having to chew like hell!!!

It is a big learning curve just to get my head around the processes and then there is the arcane language!

Spent the last week "translating" a US Navy publication from USN English to Royal Australian Navy English (Neither of which are really recognisable as forms of "English" ;) )

It is certainly great to be challenged at work once again, I am enjoying that - despite the frustration that comes from my lack of local knowledge.

There you go again Tiki! Why can't you just leave it alone? You have so much great information that I have enjoyed reading about. You have as much if not more knowledge than anyone when it comes to music. Then you leave a post like that????

It's certainly more fun to be around an optimist than a pessimist. Then again I like to live my life rather than wish for a different one so I guess I also qualify for rainbows and unicorns.

By the by, ad honiem attacks on people just enforces the negative view many have of you. Lighten up and get all the sand washed out, you'll feel better.

So, you'd prefer a site where any and all criticism of Buffett is off limits? No, thank you. Something folks like yourself tend to forget when you attempt to paint me into a corner is that I have also praised lots of Buffett's work. However, you'd prefer to gloss completely over those posts in instances such as this as it doesn't suit your very narrow minded agenda.

Saying that FinsUp6835 has always struck me as more of a "rainbows and unicorns type" isn't an "ad hominem attack", it's my honest opinion of him after having many conversations with him on this board. Personally, I'd prefer a message board where all opinions, both favorable and unfavorable are allowed. Otherwise, all you have is a one sided view of Jimmy Buffett where everyone's blowing smoke up his a$$.

Mate, I don't give a rats backside whether your opinion is, good or bad.

I do take exception to the continuous repeating of said opinion with absolutely no respect for the opinions of others.

The comment made regarding "rainbows and unicorns" was a perfect example of an ad honiem attack - it was aim directly at the person - it matters little how you came to that conclusion.

Want a couple of simple rules to stop folk like me thinking you are not very nice?

1. Play the ball, not the man.
2. Stop being pompous. You are entitled to you opinion but stop assuming that yours is the only right opinion.

Oh, silly me - of course you don't. Please do not take that as an ad honiem attack, because over time, reading your posts I have come to the conclusion that you a negative pompous goose, so it is just an opinion not an attack...

I like rainbows and unicorns. Just not every day.

I like Buffett. Just not EVERYTHING about him.

I like differing opinions. But I don't need, or care to, hear the same things over and over.

I like brief posts.

Not in the least. Besides, being told you're a "unicorns and rainbow type person" shouldn't be taken as insult, nor was it meant as one. It's just an observation I've made due to our conversations.

I never have been "pompous", nor have I ever assumed that my opinion is the "right" one, sure have been accused of it though. My advice to you is to do as some others have done here over the years and take the time to get to know me rather than continually jumping to conclusions.

What does this thread have to do with Jimmy Buffett again? Perhaps one of the mods would be kind enough to move it to the appropriate forum as it sure doesn't belong here.

This site has become a waste of time and very negative ( and I don't mean people expressing their opinion).

I took it as an insult.

My apologies for my lack of restraint.

I know better.

For the first time I have added someone to an ignore list.

Despite it being mid-winter I am going to the beach, clearly I have some sand where it shouldn't be...

Not sure how much good that will do as it's pretty much the message board equivalent of "nanny nanny boo boo" but whatever works for you.
