Deadline Detroit

Post by capnbobby »

Thanks to the moderators for posting Jimmy's interview with Deadline Detroit. One of the best Buffett interviews I've seen in a long time. The video, by the way, is much more informative than the article. Lots to discuss, but I'll hold off awhile because I don't want to spoil the interview for anyone. Well worth watching. A rather substantial interview, about 15 minutes, and Jimmy's very candid.

Great interview.

- not touring as much...
- favorite song this month is death of an unpopular poet. Possibly play it tonight?
- awesome stories. Great post buffettnews!

I heard it once back in Tallahassee in the mid-90s.

Hey everyone!!

I actually was the one interviewing Jimmy. It was SUCH an AMAZING experience to meet him. He was THE NICEST ever...

Thanks for your compliments on the interview. As a Parrothead, I asked him questions that I knew I really wanted to know (not basic "How do you like Margaritas?" "Where is the Cheeseburger in Paradise?" questions.)

One of the best days of my life.

Rodney

PS-- All the articles posted say it was on FOX2. I actually work for WXYZ, the ABC station in Detroit. But my camera man was from FOX2, and they posted the video first and they are getting all the credit!! But it was actually for WXYZ.

Right?

Anyways, thanks for the heads up, Cap'n, and great job with the interview, Rodney. Awesome pic, too. You can even see Jimmy's left armhair pattern. [smilie=coolup.gif]

Link to the print interview and video. Thanks to capnbobby for bringing this to everyone's attention as I rarely visit the main part of the site and usually go straight to the message board.

What I didn't understand, is what's up with the tongue, licking the lips... Good thing he didn't bite it off when he was talking...

It looks to me to be a side effect from a prescription drug...my father was taking a drug (I don't remember the name of it) and he did the exact same thing as Jimmy. The licking stopped after he changed prescriptions (he hated the side effect of constant licking).

Jimmy has been licking his lips for years - just watch him at the beginning of every concert. Maybe it's just a habit, or even a bit of nerves when getting started.

I guess the cat's out of the bag, so I can now disclose this information. The real Jimmy Buffett actually retired to St. Barths in 2008. What we see on tour since then is a very realistic clone, but trainers need to apply peanut butter to his gums to make it appear as if he's talking. It's very similar to the technique they used on the old TV show, Mr. Ed.

Just so long as it doesn't affect his arm hair pattern.

In the "You Learn Something New Everyday Dept.", I had no idea Def Leppard was on Mailboat Records.
