Does anyone know the story why jimmy doesnt play in Maryland anymore. The last show was at Merriweather Post Pavilion back in 2003.

I'm not sure that any official reason has been given publicly. In 2003, SFX Entertainment (Live Nation), sold Merriweather to Seth Hurwitz, owner of DC's 9:30 Club. At that point, independent promoter I.M.P. (also owned by Hurwitz) took over running Merriweather.

As I see it, the possible explanations are:

---I.M.P. and Jimmy were unable to come to an agreement to continue playing there,
---Live Nation strong-armed Jimmy into no longer playing there now that Merriweather was in competition for the DC market with Bristow's Nissan Pavilion (now Jiffy Lube Live) which is owned by Live Nation,
---it just didn't make sense for Jimmy to continue playing there because the entire pavilion and lawn at Merriweather would nearly fit inside of just the pavilion at Nissan Pavilion, or
---all of the above.

I started out seeing Jimmy at Merriweather Post back in the mid-80s. My first 7 or 8 Buffett shows were there. Here's what I remember, and please challenge this if my memory is wrong. Merriweather is located in a fairly residential area. Residents of Columbia, MD complained about the noise, so a curfew was instituted for Merriweather Post. At a certain time, the music had to be turned down. I remember being at a Buffett show there in which that happened. That would be a reason to play in Bristow. That's what I remember, but memory can be wrong. I'm either remembering fact or creating an urban legend. I would rather create an urban legend than an Urban Meyer.

Best wishes,
