This quote from R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck, which originally appeared in the October 1984 issue of Record magazine, is just as timely now (if not more so) than it was back then and certainly goes a long way towards explaining the musical disconnect I've experienced with Buffett fans since going online in the late 90's. If that sounds condescending or insulting, it's not meant to be, it's just the conclusion I've reached after years of pondering why it exists. By the way, I'm not saying it's true of everyone here but it's evident that for some, music serves as a kind of aural wallpaper while for others (such as myself and others I've encountered here), they take a much deeper interest in it.
