JB Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame
Should we start a petition to get JB inducted? It's a shame that JB and others are not already in there. He deserves it.

When you say "we" I'm assuming you mean you, so my answer would be knock yourself out. I don't think he deserves it and I think he has as much of a chance of getting in as I do, which means he would have to buy a ticket.

Re: JB Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame
i dont think it's necessary and I personally think that it's not on JB's wish list to be inducted. He's always said that yes he has had a few hit singles, but he gets WAY more appreciation and recognition from the parrothead faithful - and that's enough for him.
I've always felt that the hall of fame inductions are way too pop-culture-y...99% of the music I listen to is off the mainstream/pop-music radar, including JB.

Re: JB Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame
There are other great singers, songwriters and groups — such as Frank Sinatra, Connie Francis, Neil Sedaka, and the Monkees — who enjoyed great popularity/had #1 hits and in some way influenced other performers/the rock-and-roll industry, but are not in the RRHOF. If Jimmy never becomes inducted (and personally, I don't think he should be as his music, to paraphrase Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits, 'ain't what I call 'rock-and-roll') he is still among some dambed fine company on the outside.FinsUp6835 wrote:Should we start a petition to get JB inducted? Valid point. Though, I think he wouldn't be upset if he was nominated. Over 40 years of songwriting, touring, and dozens of albums. In MY opinion, he does deserve it. But, as seen above - some disagree. Totally fine. Different strokes for different folks. Maybe if JB brought on some girls in white shirts and orange pants more would be inclined to nominate him...

One of the criteria for getting into the Rock Hall is the influence an artist has had on other artists. Name one, just one, rock musician who has been influenced by Jimmy Buffet. I'll wait.FinsUp6835 wrote:SharkysMV1 wrote:i dont think it's necessary and I personally think that it's not on JB's wish list to be inducted. Though they are not "rock" - two that immediately come to mind are Kenny Chesney and Zac Brown.

Jimmy would have a better shot into Nashville than Cleveland. With all his singer/songwriter roots from the 70s in Nashville, that is where he belongs.
Did you hear the one about me being a punk?
Did you hear the one about me being a drunk?
Did you hear the one about me losing my nerve?
Or how I'm just another f**** sheep in the herd?
Did you hear the one about me giving a s***?
Cause if I ever did I don't remember it.

Seriously, 2 country artists? Your argument just lost whatever shred of credibility it may have had.FinsUp6835 wrote:Though they are not "rock" - two that immediately come to mind are Kenny Chesney and Zac Brown.

Re: JB Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame
Though I guess you can technically label them as "country" artists, much of their music is a mix of rock, bluegrass, and folk. I tend to not label artists. Music is music. Especially ZBB - you can argue they are a rock, bluegrass jam band. I guess my argument is that JB deserves more credit than he gets. You were quick to shoot that down and implied that he only deserves to buy a ticket. Maybe he is a better fit for other halls, as mentioned in the posts above. So maybe I should revise my "thesis." Point is - JB is a legend and deserves to be somewhere.LIPH wrote:Seriously, 2 country artists? is Jimmy considered Rock??? if there was a Music HoF , then he's a lock , but RaR HoF , i don't consider him a rocker in the sense of the word.FinsUp6835 wrote:Though I guess you can technically label them as "country" artists, much of their music is a mix of rock, bluegrass, and folk. I'm not sure that Jimmy fits in the Rock and Roll HOF (and they have pretty much stayed away from True Country Singers/Bands.
However, I would also debate whether the 4 Hip-Hop Acts (Beastie Boys being the closest) and Jimmy Cliff belong in the Hall, as well.

If so, Jimmy and the Reefers are first ballot.

Buffett was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2006.Nighthawk wrote:Jimmy would have a better shot into Nashville than Cleveland. With all his singer/songwriter roots from the 70s in Nashville, that is where he belongs.

Johnny Cash and Hank Williams are in, I don't think it gets much more country than that. Buffett crosses genres. In the beginning, he was groomed to take the place of the late Jim Croce. In those days, he was also thought of alongside other singer/songwriters such as James Taylor. He inducted the Eagles, so there's that. He's also well thought of by Jann Wenner, one of the founders of Rolling Stone and one of the chief gatekeepers of the Hall. Despite having those factors in his favor, he's yet to be nominated for induction even though he's been eligible for several decades now (an artist is eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first recording). While a petition may help bring the cause to the powers that be, you can have all the signatures in the world and it still won't insure his induction. Then again, similar campaigns have worked in the past for Kiss and Rush. A stronger case can be made for them as they were highly influential and are straight up rock.Tarheel Tail-Gator wrote:I'm not sure that Jimmy fits in the Rock and Roll HOF (and they have pretty much stayed away from True Country Singers/Bands.
Hip hop, rap and reggae artists are in for the same reason country, folk, bluegrass, jazz, blues, jazz, soul, r & b artists, etc. are in, because rock n' roll draws from all of those genres of music and vice versa.Tarheel Tail-Gator wrote:However, I would also debate whether the 4 Hip-Hop Acts (Beastie Boys being the closest) and Jimmy Cliff belong in the Hall, as well.
