You have to have tickets to get into the lots? I always buy mine in the lots right before the show begins.

to crack down on people who don't have tickets and are there to drink , mostly minors , they have in the past check to see if you have tickets. I can't remember , I just need 2 to get through the gate. The old , they are at will call doesn't work , what would work is a confirmation email , showing that you have tickets at the box office.

hmmmm

I never buy anywhere but in the lots. I bet we could say, "a friend has our tickets. We are meeting them inside."

Last year we were there just as they started letting people in to the lots (we had to then wait in line with our cars until the lots actually opened at 11) and they did not check our tickets. If memory serves, the last time we had tickets checked on the way in was 2012.

The word around Mansfield is that they are definitely tougher on who is getting into the lots this year. I would not feel confident that I could get into the lot without a ticket. I would also add that they have been tougher on drinking in the lots too. I know a few people that watched liquor being confiscated from both of age & underaged people. I am waiting to hear how they are by the end of July as these stories come from the beginning of the season. I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't as hardcore by the time our show rolls around, but they will be watching for those too drunk to stand people.

They are most assuredly tougher this year at Great Woods and it is due in large part to last years Mass Casualty Incident at the July 27th Keith Urban concert which sent 22 to the hospital by ambulance and saw another 50 arrested. Earlier this year there was incident involving a party bus filled with underage teens and were partying with booze. Three of those teens ended up being taken to the hospital while another 12 were arrested and that was before the bus ever entered the parking lots at Great Woods! According to reports from that incident the bus stopped at the Cumberland Farms that is just outside of GW and several of the teens entered the store. A young female exited bus and promptly passed out just feet from two cops, the cops then boarded the bus and found the alcohol. Several of the teens ran from the Cumberland Farms parking lot but were later arrested. Needless to say none of the teens made to the show.

Buffett fans should watch reports from the weekend of July 25 2015, that weekend the all day Mayhem Festival is at GW while there is also a concert at Gillette Stadium which mean simultaneous tailgate events going on.

it's most shows Nancy , I'm not sure where liability falls , but I know from working in the beverage industry ( I can only speak from CT) , that the liquor commission is cracking down hard on concert venues , bars and liquor stores.

I found this ..... but , this is for minors.

Penalties for Serving a Minor: There can be hefty penalties to serving alcohol to a minor. This doesn’t even technically mean that you or your staff services the minor. If a minor is found on premises drinking (even if it’s given to him/her by a friend), you could be held liable. Penalties often arise from a compliance check conducted by local police or the state liquor licensing authority. Some venues are cited for underage drinking secondary to an inciting act (alcohol poisoning, fighting, etc) where police are called and a violation is discovered later.

In Massachusetts, for example, serving a minor can have multiple repercussions, including civil penalties, jail time, and suspension or revocation of your venue’s liquor license. Mass. General Law, Chapter 138, Section 34 regulates penalties for sale or furnishing of alcohol to a minor, with penalties being a fine of $2,000 and jail time of up to one year. More often than not, however, it is the local town or city that will issue the penalty for problems with underage drinking. Generally, he penalty will come in the form of license suspension (days or weeks for repeat offenders). License suspension can cripple your business, particularly when bands are booked early and tickets are sold months in advance.

Tommy is right, just about every show there is a problem and the police are letting it be known before each concert that they are watching and arrests will be made. You'd think it is only underaged, but I was looking at those taken into "protective custody" at Dave Matthews and there were more of age than under. There are some p*** off people in town who are not happy & are pushing for more to be done because they see the place as out of control. There was even an announcement at the start of the concert season that the only alcohol allowed would be that purchased there. I think that is only enforced if you are stupid though, I need to find out if anyone knows more on that.

I think if they are on Xfinity Center property in the parking lots or in the venue itself the liability is on the owners of the venue. However this year the lines seem to be blurring (pardon the pun) with two shows. Yesterday I mentioned this years Tim McGraw show and earlier today I learned about another show this year that had serious problems. This show was a rap show headlined by Snoop Dog in which 50 attendees needed medical attention due to drug and alcohol intoxication issues of 36 of those 50 were transported by ambulance from the venue to 3 different nearby hospitals. According to reports from this event some of the concert goers arrived intoxicated and were allowed in anyway.

Another important thing to understand is when there a Mass Casualty Incident or MCI, at GW, The Mansfield Fire Department are the local first response unit. additional ambulances are called from other local fire departments from the nearby towns which means any responses to emergencies in those towns are impacted due the ambulances responding to GW

Snoop Dog is a young crowd , what I see with the young crowd now is they drink to get drunk , it's shot after shot. The BN crowd at Buffett shows on the most part are responsible drinkers , the problem is we are a small percentage of the crowd. And it takes just one person to wreck havoc for the rest of the people...quick story , a few years ago I had a late start to a Buffett concert at GW (Funeral) , well on my way at about exit 13 I get a flat tire , I call triple A , they called me and said they would be right there , GREAT!!, well a hour went by and they show up , the guy was apologizing to me , apparently someone at GW left to go and buy more booze ( had to be 1 0r 2 in the afternoon) they impounded his car because he was drunk. Bad prep on his part.

Just checked the entertainment license to Live Nation and that states "drinking in the parking lots is prohibited". In addition, the town has an indemnification agreement which pretty much says, "Live Nation, you are on the hook if anything happens, don't be looking at us." The question is, have the incidents at Tim McGraw & Summer Jam, the one with Snoop, early in the concert season caused some pressure to change how things are done. I know Summer Jam parking lots didn't open until 4 with a concert time of 6.

There are a few concerts between now and 8/15 that can be a problem, the Vans Warped Tour, Mayhem Festival (as Tommy mentioned), the Metal Megaticket, and the night before Toby Keith (for some reason the kids go to the country acts and drink stupid). So, we will have to see if we hear anything new.
