From the Palm Beach Post: "Buffett has a new airplane - a biplane"
Off we go, into the wild blue yonder...
A week ago Tuesday afternoon, local troubadour Jimmy Buffett did just that, taking off from PBIA in the newest airplane on his flight line, a 1940s-era Stearman biplane. The plane, which was restored in Orlando, sells in the $100,000 range. Buffett also owns a single-engine seaplane, a Falcon executive jet and the "Hemisphere Dancer," an Albatross amphibian, that once came under machine gun fire from Jamaican police, who mistakenly thought it was being used to smuggle drugs.
Don't expect Jimmy to fly the Stearman between gigs on his 20-date spring and summer tour, which comes no closer than Atlanta. If you didn't see him at National Car Rental Center on Feb. 16, where the sound, fans said, was terrible, your only chance is April 3 at The Breakers Beach Club, where'll he'll perform a benefit for the Academy of the Palm Beaches capital campaign. For tickets -- $1,000, including cocktails, dinner and show -- call 832-8815.

I find it hard to believe there is not a bigger stir in the Parrot Head pot about the potential passing of Hemisphere Dancer from Buffett legend. While Jimmy is entitled to move on to other toys, it is a sad passing. Hope HD finds a loving home.
Wish I had a license to fly and some seaplane time... Chalks Flying Service is looking for a 1st Officer....
As a kid I used to watch the USCG taxi their Albatrosses down the ramp in Coconut Grove, Dinner Key Marina (the old China Clipper base).
Finally flew on a Chalks seplane last summer out of FTL. It was fantastic! Wife about jumped out, but I was in ecstacy!
anyone else out there flown in seaplanes?

There's a guy here in Atlanta that flys his Stearman from PDK airport up to Lake Lanier. Its got a blue fuselage with gold wings with the early WWII star insnigia on them. Thousands of these were built early in the war to use as basic trainers.
He just cruises the lake and I always think of the line from Barometer Soup, "We'll barrel roll into the sun, just for starters"
