NYC--BEACON THEATRE AREA

Taking in a show next month at the Beacon. Buzzing into LaGuardia on a Thursday morning for the Thursday night show. Heading back out Saturday morning. Trying to decide whether to stay near the airport or get a room somewhat near the Beacon. Trying to keep costs down if possible but wouldn't mind a hotel bar or at least something nearby.

Any thoughts on the hotel situation? Also, what else is in the vicinity of the Beacon that may be worth checking out before the show or on the Friday day off?

Have a 9:40 am flight out of LaGuardia. Wouldn't think traffic would be too bad on a Saturday morning at that hour getting back to airport. How soon would you realistically want to arrive prior to flight? May or may not check a bag. May just go "carry on" route so I'm sure that would save some time.

Thanks!

I know there are some chain hotels near LaGuardia Airport but I don't know the area that well so I don't know where the nearest subway stations or bus lines are to get to Manhattan from there. I'm sure there are hotels close to the Beacon but since I used to live there I never really paid any attention to where they were, sorry. The Beacon is on 74th St. and Broadway, if you have to commute anywhere by subway the closest station is at 72nd St. and Broadway.

If you're interested in museums, the Museum of Natural History is just a few blocks away. I don't remember exactly where it is but it's across the street from Central Park at about the 78th, 79th, 80th St. area, which is northeast of the Beacon. There's a subway station at the museum but it isn't the same lines that you would take to the Beacon so it would be easier to walk. If the weather is nice and you just want to kill some time, you could go for a stroll in Central Park. Strawberry Fields is at about 72nd or 73rd St. just inside the park.

When I lived on Long Island I used to try to avoid flying out of LaGuardia because it's smaller than JFK, it's always crowded and JFK was easier to get to from where I lived. The lines at security are usually pretty long, I would get there 1- 1 1/2 hours before my flight. Probably closer to 1 1/2 to be safe. I'd rather wait than have to run through the airport to catch my flight.
