Seeking info on vintage concert shirts I found

Post by NVHoo »

I found a small collection of vintage, unused Buffett concert shirts at an estate sale. In addition to the usual tour shirts sold at all venues, there are some shirts that were sold/given away for a subset of some tours. I'm seeking info on two shirts. The first is a Primo Parrot Head Party shirt (super graphics on the front) that lists 3 concerts on the back that coincide with the 1993 Chameleon Caravan Tour at New Orleans, Atlanta, and Buckeye Lake OH (Note they are not consecutive shows). Then there is the No Passport Required shirt which coincides with the end of the Beach House on the Moon Tour that was played in April of 2000 (not 1999) on the west coast. So for that shirt, did they change the name of the tour since it was played in 2000 prior to the 2000 "Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays" tour? Another possibility is that these shirts were produced by a fan club that held a special parties at those locations (they don't coincide with Margaritaville locations). Were they sold in Margaritaville locations? Yet another possibility was that they were given to VIPs in those cities, or as an ID to be able to enter pre or post concert parties? These are questions for a serious and long time Buffett fan.

If this is the No Passport Required shirt you're talking about, it's nothing special. I bought it at the t-shirt stand at the Las Vegas show 4/15/2000.

I also have a t-shirt from the Chameleon Caravan tour but it doesn't list any dates on the back. Like the No Passport Required shirt, this shirt is nothing special. Another one I bought at the t-shirt stand at a concert.
what I really mean . . . I wish you were here

The no passport shirt was part of the release of Margaritaville Tequila which is why it has a bottle of Margaritaville Gold Tequila on it. The shirt was one of several promotional items released to promote Margaritaville Tequila. Jimmy also released a two track CD featuring a cover version of the song Tequila and a version of Margaritaville why some lyrics in Spanish, the CD's were freebies included with some bottles of the Tequila.

The Primo Parrethead Party shows were actually part of The Chameleon Tour and were conceived as show cases for Jimmy's then brand new music label called Margaritaville Records. The Primo events featured not only Jimmy doing a full show but performances by Evangeline, The Iguanas, Little Richard and Micheal MacDonald. The Primo events ran 8 hours long with Jimmy's show being the finale to each event. The events also included Caribbean arts and crafts, foods, and other festivities including smaller stages where local bands performed

The Primo shirt graphics on the front look identical to the chameleon shirt except is says Primo Parrot Head Party on the bottom of the front and the top of the back with the 3 dates on the back and none of the standard Chameleon shirt graphics on the back. Thanks so much
