Detroit 2016

Post by Finnsaremorefun »

My goal when I attended my first show in 2006 was to at least see 10 more shows. Beyond that, now my goal is to at least get my kid to a show. Expecting our first child on March 25th, that means to surpass the new goal we need another five years or so of touring. Here's to that and many more years partying in the 'D'!!

Which means, where we heading this year? West Riverfront again? I loved it last year. Let's goooo!

my son's first concert was in utero when Jimmy was at the Palace in February 2002. :)

I didn't go last year and am kind of over Detroit. I think he needs to head back to Pine Knob. I would definitely go if that happened!
well, ummmmmmm, yah, I guess I better come up with something witty to put in this spot since everyone is reading it.......

So it looks like Huey Lewis is opening a number of 2016 shows on the the "I Don't Know" tour.

ZZ Top is on the Frisco, TX docket- would be nice for a possible Detroit show, but it's probably just a one-off Texas show.

No Detroit show yet - hoping it's back at Pine Knob, but I have a feeling we'll be going to Riverfront again. Probably won't hear anything until April-May, per usual.

Jimmy's move downtown coincided with Tom Wilson's move from PS&E to the Illitch group. Immediately, that bridged relations with Comerica and the inner workings of downtown venues. Logistically it made sense because Wilson was already familiar with the demands that a Buffett show requires, and with him leaving PS&E, that really took Pine Knob out of the equation.

There were rumblings last year of the possible construction of an amphitheater near the river, and that would be the ultimate setting. With the growth that's being experienced downtown that becomes a real possibility.

In the meantime, I believe West Riverfront Park will be the venue for the next 2-3 years. The Buffett team above all else are business people, and it's a great regional story for him to be a part of playing downtown when it was bankrupt, and sticking with it throughout. If the amphitheater doesn't come to fruition, expect a show the first year that the "New Joe" opens..

The new amp would be where the old Joe is.

Red wings aren't moving till early 2018 so construction on a new shed downtown wouldn't start and then be ready till at least 2020

With the run at Comerica, it was easy to plan the show as it fell during the all star break. But Riverfront opens up the entire summer!

I need dates Jimmy! We have a summer to plan but everything, and I mean EVERYTHING is on hold till you announce.

Vegas would be good too, as I turn 40 in October and the plan has been to be a pirate looking at 40 in Vegas :wench:

It was posted today on the DPHC facebook page that Jimmy said that he is playing Pine Knob/DTE this year. How big is parking lot? What is tailgating like there?

Parking lot is perfect! It's all grouped together somewhat tightly so while you are able to set up your own tailgate very nicely, it is verrry conducive to wandering to other awesome phriendly tailgates as well!
