2016 Sharks Baseball Thread

Post by johnson2113 »

Last season after the Royals won the World Series and Papa came home, Bryson started making baseball cards. I decided to make him some of the sharks baseball team based on some of the cards from when I was a kid. Then, thinking ahead to the 2016 season I started making templates of some of the newer cards, and then I I went a little overboard and make card templates from 1952-2016. I've got way too many for the number of games, and then I tried my hand at creating a few original cards.

Here's the album of tests I made.

1952 Topps I'm going to have the boys autograph my iPad and put their signature in there. Hoping for an original Rookie Card one of these days.

Nice job. Back about 30 years ago, one of the guys on my office softball team had a side business as a freelance photographer. He took pictures of everyone on the team and made baseball cards for us but they didn't look anywhere near as good as those. [smilie=gt-happyup.gif]

Thanks!!!!

That's awesome, a few of the boys on the team have gotten to see them and are pretty excited. I definitely went a little crazy making them but at least I'm not as bad as the team. They are already planning on selling them, trading them, packaging them.

Thanks!!!!

I cringed a couple of times, thinking maybe I overdid it. I obviously did, but all the messages I've gotten since the first game have made all worth it.

I'm not sure who is more excited the moms or the Sharks.

Number 1: The best thing, the boys picked the name of the team. SHARKS!!! It made it too easy, being a Parrothead.
Number 2: All the time off between the season, gave me time to mock up these cards, but it also gave me time to come up with my favorite idea. In the tradition of the Sea of Red, the Black Hole, the Dawg Pound, I get to shoot pictures of the Feeding Frenzy!!!! I really feel bad for the teams we play. We play at a complex with 20+ fields and our bleachers are beyond full, if I wasn't shooting pictures, there wouldn't be room for me to sit. It's insane!!

We never played until school was out, in the first week of the Sharks baseball season they will have two games and a tournament. It's April!

Here's the first set of carsd, I originally had planned on only one card, but since I'm only focusing on one team I decided to get them all hitting, running and playing the field. And of course the Feeding Frenzy!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/thesharks ... 6810672442

This is just the pictures of the game. I shot 1600+ and uploaded over 300. Keep your eyes on them, in about 10 years I'll be sure to get autographed cards for all of you, and I'm already working on the first generation of autographed cards!

This future All-Star is going to catch up a pop-up this season, I guarantee it! He was really close on Friday!

Needing some opinions. I'm having a hard a time getting some input back from the Sharks' fans. My plan is to make cards for every game I shoot, I'm hoping to shoot them all, but with the schedule of the year I don't know if that will happen.

So, if you could look through the cards I've made and give me your opinion on your favorites that would help narrow it down for games.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/tankedpyr ... 4293195059

And if you want to be featured on a card I would love to have some of my BNer's be part of the Feeding Frenzy, showing up in support of my Sharks, just send me a picture of yourself and I'll put your name or BN username on the card and I'll let the team know that they have support from all over. That would really thrill them!

OK, I'm all worked up about baseball. The Royals are on TV, Jimmy is on my wireless speaker. I went ahead and made a page for the Sharks!

Join up and follow along during the season. I'll do my best to upload as fast as I can. It's Spring, it's baseball season, it's Jimmy season!!!!

I looked at the cards on your flickr page and for what it's worth, here are my favorites (in no particular order):
1. second row, far right with the shark on the small home plate in the lower corner
2. the one next to that with the shark on the baseball
3. fifth row, 3rd from the left - I like the purple banner with the bold stripes on the top and bottom for the players' names
4. I would use the card with the flag background for special occasions - tournaments, playoffs, holiday games, etc.

I also like the idea you mentioned in your other post about having multiple cards for each player - at bat, in the field and running the bases. If you go ahead and do that, I think a different design for each card would be the way to go.

Love the one where he is ripping off the face mask.

Can you catch them red-handed in the act of their respective positions?

Thanks for the input, those are some of my favoritecards!!!

I think they have a tourney around the 4th of July so I thought the flag card I would do for that one. I have a couple of cards for special occasions and plan on using those then. I'm still having a hard time getting parents to pick some out, so I will be using the suggestions from here until they give me ideas!

Still working on that, I've got two cameras and I'm shooting fast as I can. Unfortunately the games move a little faster than I can shoot.

I appreciate all the opinions, they will be used in this week's cards. I chose my favorite for the second game and I will be using some for the tourney over the weekend chosen from BN. I've asked the parents their opinions for this weekend and if I don't give any opinions, they are SOL. And I will base it purely from BN.

I'm going to do my best to get the Feeding Frenzy to do the FINS UP pose during the game. Once I get the stands full I'm going to get them to pose so I can get them all doing it. I know my sister's out-laws aren't as involved as my folks' are, but I haven't seen them since the wedding, I'm hoping I can get them involved with the team this season. As much as they may not want them, to be.

OMGosh, you have been busy & they all look great!
My favorites are those that have the inset of the 'resting face'. I REALLY like the black & white face pic inside the shark mouth. Good luck in catching them in the act of their position :D
You're only as young as you are right now. Make the best of it!

Thanks a lot of mom's and NeeNee's and Papa's like the insert faces so I've been catching casual shots of them in the downtime for those!!! Got some I can't wait to use for that.

So, BIG TIME HAPPENINGS, this weekend! No games all week or next weekend because I need some time off!!!

The Sharks had their first tournament this weekend. Parents voices are hoarse, I think I got carpal tunnel from shooting, the boys have to be completely wiped out!!!! A little rocky in the first couple of games, so of the worst base running of all time, the field was awful, but they fought through all of that and on Sunday, they go a bye in the first round, one their first game of the day and went into the championship with several hours of rest!!! Taking home the trophy!!!!

*They are just a step above participation trophies, but these two teams battled out to get in to the championship game. Our guys' just had somewhat of home field advantage and more time off.

And I'm thrilled for the team and the coaches and parents and the fans, but I think I may come in second place as most excited this weekend and first place only going to, #35 in your programs and #1 in your hearts!!!!

A lot of catchers in the league play hard, but I'm sorry I know if mom and dad didn't make sure he put his mitt in his bag it would be under his pillow every night. He wanted it, he's worked for it, he got the first out of the final inning!

I got so many great shots this weekend, everyone playing hard!!! One of our, well not of the best players on the team, he may have actually had the best play of the weekend(without uncle bias). And I got a picture of it, I have so many I can't wait to share!

If he's Salvador Perez behind the plate, then he is Wade Davis on the mound.

Image

Image

3rd Out, thrown out at first. He's giving a fist pump and walking off before the ball is even in the 1st baseman's glove.
Image

Caught a pop up at the pitcher's mound.
Image

3rd out again.
Image

I've got to get his parents to teach him to high 5 his buddies after a play like that.
Image

I really want to be him when I grow up.
Image

He looked too cool after they won the tourney.

I wish I had gotten pictures of it. There is a sandbox in between the two main fields we play on. Ryanne has a big bag of sand toys she brings and let's all the kids play with. Apparently some kid was running off with them and got her mad. She was staring him down and ready to whoop some butt.

Great pics again, Jerred. [smilie=coolup.gif] Does he prefer either position or he just loves it all?

Thank you!!!

Oh, he's a catcher through and through. The coaches like to move them around, too much in my opinion. Shortstop, 2nd, 3rd and 1st base we have some guys that play really well there. The outfield we have a floater who is another great one that can play anywhere. His twin brother, of triplets/one girl, twin boys, doesn't like to play catcher but his brother does. A lot of the boys have really been progressing well. They like having another good glove in the infield, so he plays at pitcher when he's not catching.

When Bryson is catcher he's the boss out there, the coaches called him the captain. He's moving guys around the field. He knows what he's doing, he's running the show, and he busts his ass out there. If his buddy is fastest player on the team, in his catcher's gear he is the second fastest.

So, I have to tell a story here. The first team sport I shot of him was flag football, 4 years ago, I think. I didn't know any of the other kids on the team. I just went out to shoot, Bub. After a few games I started shooting all the guys and all the action. Eventually I got to know some of the players and parents. Talking to them about taking picture, and eventually it became, "Are you taking your camera?", "Why, I have Jerred shooting pictures?"

Same with baseball, most of the team is baseball, football, basketball guys, they all know me, they all love the pictures. They all get to sit in the stands and watch the game, I shoot everything. Last nights game we had rain, threats of tornadoes, the sandbox was a disaster Ryanne and all of the girls weren't allowed to play in there. So, she orchestrated them all harassing me. They would come up and slap me, I would jump away from them and they would sneak up on me. I would turn and shoot pictures of them and they would scream and run. She will always entertain herself until she's doing her own thing.

Last night was supposed to be their "professional" pictures, all the parents said we don't want to do that, Jerred takes better pictures, we love them in action, we love them hanging out before and after. It's better than anything we have to pay for. That means everything to me. They use the pictures on their facebook page, the boys' are loving the cards, asking me if I got good pictures of them.

BN has been and always will be my therapy. In a totally non-political way I feel like most of the parents are bleeding hearts.

I watch everything, it maybe through a square 1/4 inch hole but I watch everything. I see reactions, emotions, jubilation and disappointment. Catching one split second to freeze in time, I love it. But I also catch absolutely everything in between. Batting stances, swings, everything these boys can be thinking about, they can see it and work on it.

Win or lose, chances are I'm going to shoot just as many pictures. If there is not a lot of action, then the number is a little lower, if they hit a run rule, then the number is lower. I get them before the game, during the game, after the game. Parents, siblings, grandparents, whatever. I'm there to shoot baseball, but I'm also there to shoot the whole event. Last night I shot a picture of a coach on another team for another game catch one of our foul balls.

Bryson, the one thing none of us can get him to do is see where the ball is, just take the first pitch. I love that about him as much as it drives me crazy. No fear, no hesitation, just get out there and do it. The only thing with a machine pitch is, if he sees it one time, then he will definitely see it better the next time.

I behind two games on pictures. I will say there is two levels of players. But they can all jump in between those two levels. One kid last night, who I didn't feel like was progressing had an incredible game he had two doubles, and caught a screaming line drive at the pitchers mound. At this point I know all the parents pretty well, and most of the players know me, but the ones that don't I don't hesitate to tell them what a great game they played and I see that motivate them. "This guy is kind of familiar but I don't really know him, but he gave me a high five and that's awesome."

This is from last week's game. As soon as I got home I had to make it. This is the Sharks' first home run swing.

This is why I go and shoot the pictures, as much practice for me, as much for parents to enjoy the game and not worry about pictures, as much for the team they can remember this!
