Nice but why wouldn't they produce ones that have never been released on vinyl?!?

I'm guessing they are just testing the waters to see if 2 of his more popular albums will sell. If they do, I could see more of his albums get re-released on vinyl.

They only have the rights to Jimmy's LP's that were originally released between 1973 and 1989FinsUp6835 wrote:Nice but why wouldn't they produce ones that have never been released on vinyl?!?
However the above having been said there are five new vinyl LP's available from Mailboat records of more recent albums, these albums are:
Tuesdays Thursdays and Saturdays
License to Chill
Weather With You
Songs from St. Somewhere
Tis The Season
These are four are $18.99 each available exclusively from Mailboat Records:

MCA can reissue LPs from 1973 to 1996. Margaritaville Records was under MCA.

Jimmy did not record any Vinyl LP's after the album "Off To See the Lizard" which was released in 1989. Everything after that starting with Fruitcakes in 1994 has been released on CDASaltyPieceOfLand wrote:MCA can reissue LPs from 1973 to 1996. Margaritaville Records was under MCA.

The thread title gives a hint but here is a bit more to it:urlcenter wrote:Jimmy did not record any Vinyl LP's after the album "Off To See the Lizard" which was released in 1989. MCA didn't press any vinyl LPs starting with Feeding Frenzy through Christmas Island (probably because they're so cheap). The culture of language of it has changed, however: a CD is an LP. These days LPs come on vinyl, CD and downloads. Of course, some places refer to LP strictly as the vinyl issue, like discogs.com.
A Long Player is an album, it's not specifically a vinyl album anymore. A CD is a record, an album. The format is moot. Therefor MCA can issue any of the Margaritaville Records albums on vinyl if they want to, just like Mailboat Records has with Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, License To Chill, Take The Weather With You and Songs From St Somewhere, which was released on vinyl originally as well.
Hopefully Universal will do more vinyl reissues as well as vinyl issues of the 1990s LPs and hell, maybe they'll remaster the entire 1973-1996 catalog and reissue everything with better sound - on vinyl and CD too.

I would love to see Jimmy's early LPs re-mastered and re-released on CD with the original artwork and liner notes.

Re: MCA reissues 2 Jimmy Buffett LP's on Vinyl!!
Four of them have been released remastered on Gold CD's including White Sport Coat, Son of A Son A Sailor, Changes in Latitudes Changes in Attitudes and Songs You Know By Heart. While the music quality is excellent there are no original notes or artwork included. It would be cool have all of the original artwork and remastered CD's. The original CD release of Living and Dying in 3/4 Time retained some of the artwork and the liner notes from the vinyl LP however that version of the CD was discontinued when MCA started released Jimmy's catalog as part of their Compact Disc/Compact Price low price CD programBucarader wrote:I would love to see Jimmy's early LPs re-mastered and re-released on CD with the original artwork and liner notes.

I ordered Fruitcakes, Barometer Soup, Banana Wind and Beach House On The Moon from Amazon a couple years back for a gift for someone. They were the second pressings: all the interior packing was in black and white.
That's how cheap MCA Records have been with Jimmy's catalog.
They need to do a proper remaster and repacking reissue of his 1973-1996 catalog!!!

Re: MCA reissues 2 Jimmy Buffett LP's on Vinyl!!
I don't believe those four were ever released on Vinyl as Jimmy's last Vinyl LP release was Off to See the Lizard in 1989. Sounds like you ended up with bootlegsASaltyPieceOfLand wrote:I ordered Fruitcakes, Barometer Soup, Banana Wind and Beach House On The Moon from Amazon a couple years back for a gift for someone. The second round of CD issues MCA put out.
MCA should put them out on vinyl. There's some great artwork in the packaging of those albums.

I did not know MCA ever did that with CD releases, I know that Tuesdays Thursdays and Saturdays was issued in both a standard jewel case and a digipac with slightly different cover artwork on the digipack coverASaltyPieceOfLand wrote:The second round of CD issues MCA put out.

Re: MCA reissues 2 Jimmy Buffett LP's on Vinyl!!
I didn't know either. I was disappointed. I didn't know they were reissues until I looked at them. I started to wonder so I looked because I was suspect of MCA based on other reissues with next to zero original art packaging - I have a vinyl copy of A1A (the MCA reissue) that is ridiculous, it's as bad as the CD copy.
Which is strange. I don't know this for a fact but it seems that initial pressings of CDs are probably in the 5 million copies range. They don't go bad sitting in shrinkrap. Yet MCA pressed additional copies and cheaped out on the print!

MCA removed all of the original ABC Records artwork from Jimmy's LP's after taking over ABC Records in 1979 and yes their reissues of Jimmy's ABC LP's were flimsy at best.ASaltyPieceOfLand wrote:I didn't know either. I personally own 2 copies of Jimmy's CD Beach House on the Moon one I bought and was a gift from my dad and the contents are identical for both copies. Your issue with the CD's you ordered sounds like bootleg or knock off copies not the actual MCA pressings.

I'm with urlcenter. I think you got some knockoff CDs. Where did you buy them? Matamoros?ASaltyPieceOfLand wrote:I didn't know either. I was disappointed. In reality, every "Compact Disk, Compact Price" release that MCA did sucks. The early George Strait albums are like this also. MCA needs to go back, re-master, and re-release a lot of early classic albums from a lot of artists.

Re: MCA reissues 2 Jimmy Buffett LP's on Vinyl!!
I wonder if they were those Amazon CD-R products? These are the ones that are made "on demand" for out of print or out of stock albums, that aren't going to be re-stocked.
When I see something like this I always look at the used options.
