Very good CD. One of his strongest since Barometer Soup. The critics that say he lacks depth as an artist should hear this one. I really appriciate that Buffett is still willing to put out the effort to make music that is new and exciting. I wish other established artist cared as much for their fans and their art to do the same. I cant wait to see him on the new tour

After listening to the albulm a half-dozen times in the last two days, I have to dissent on the opinion that it's one of Jimmy's better works. It *is* growing on me, and i'll agree there are probably 4-6 songs on there that are quality, but here are the two very major problems I have with the albulm:
1. Jimmy messed up two of the best songs on there musically - Far Side... and Last Man Standing. I saw both live (including Mac doing LMS at MOTM this year) and both were slowed down CONSIDERABLY from their live versions. I'm glad Jimmy chose to do mostly ballads on this albulm, but these two should have been left as up-tempo tunes. JB cut out a lot of the background music on both, and did both songs an injustice. A disappointment since both songs have excellent lyrics and flowing, energetic music the don't truly show up in the studio release.

2. The middle of the albulm kind of drags (although I am warming up to it) in a "Mental Floss" kind of way. Maybe it will just take some getting used to but it's already turning into a "should i just jump to track 9 or 10 now?" kind of thing. Just the fact that i turned on migrationradio.com this morning before listening again should tell me something. However, like the last couple of albulms, i am sure with time it will grow on me.

All that said, I still have my ticket to Camden and will wait for FSOTW, Last man Standing, and Blue Guitar to be played. See you in the parking lot....

Some great new roads on this album. As a steel drum afficionado, I was disappointed that Robert Greenidge does not play on many tracks. However, the addition of mandolin, fiddle, and pedal steel guitar are a great plus for Buffett's sound. This is the first album where the music is almost more interesting than the lyrics. My favorite track is "Savannah Fare you Well". It has a certain country feel to it. The African sound of "Blue guitar" is also a great addition. "USS Zydecoldsmobile" totally rocks in a cajun style.(Did I forget to mention accordian among the new instruments)
I hope Jimmiy puts these three songs in this concert tour and I will be happy.

Far Side Of The World is excellent. It's got a fresh feeling to it. It rocks, it sways, it rolls, there's pedal steel, it swings. It captures a more honed down sound and, lucky for me and anyone else who agrees - no stupid songs like "Math Suks". I hear all kinds of sounds from other albums, especially the big band swing sound that he captured so well on Banana Wind and Beach House On The Moon. I also hear some elements of Somewhere Over China. I disagree with the Miami Herald in saying that BHOTM was a disappointment. BHOTM was an excellent album, in comparison to Banana Wind, Barometer Soup and Fruitcakes. It has a more defined feel and sound to it. FSOTW is the same way. Jimmy is singing better on this record than he has on many previous records. Maybe it's because it doesn't sound like typical Jimmy that he does in his live shows. Maybe it's because he's writing new ballads and laidback songs since he wants to perform more ballads than hits at his shows. This is obviously an outlet for that desire, and I'm glad he finally released it. Afterall, the river gets deeper, not shallower, the further you move down the stream. The Hawaii set list is encouraging to let me look even more forward to seeing him at Jazz Fest.

If you don't like, there has got to be something wrong with you. This is some of Jimmy's best work, not that any of it is bad, but this is just really good. Can't wait to go see him again!

No problem Last PH! About the album: I LOVE it. Some songs more than others. I like how the album is paced like his shows: starts out "quietish" and works you up, then end on a quiet note. I may even have to learn some French now!

I think the album is great. However, the third song drags on quite a bit and I would say the weakest on the album (autdur du rocher). But, what the heck how many album's does anyone buy that likes every song. See everyone in Vegas....Kahuna

I think that this CD is FANTASTIC. I tend to listen to tracks 1,2,4,11, and 12 the most and listen to the others every now and then. My favorite is Savannah Fare You Well. Great job Jimmy...I will be in Charlotte April 19th to hear the live version!

Jimmy did a great job on this one. Savannah Fare You Well, All The Ways I Want you, Mademoiselle (Voulez-Vous Danser), Someday I Will, and Tonight I Just Need My Guitar are the standouts for me, but there isn't a lousy song on here. I was slightly disappointed he didn't write more of the material, but other than that, it's phantastic.

Personally I think the CD bookends rather well Blue Guitar in the beginning and FSOTW and Tonight all I need is my guitar. Last man standing kicks ass too. Referring to somone,s earlier post, I must have something wrong with me because I am not blown away by it.Come to think of it, I sm not a huge fan post-Fruitcakes. This doesnt mean I don't like any of it .It just seems if I made a top 10 album list, all of them would come from Fruicakes and before. This doesn't mean I won't play the heck out of this CD either, I just seem to pull my inspiration from earlier works.

This is an awsome album. Especily Savana Fare You Well, and Someday I Will. I had my brother pick this up for me when he was at work on the 19th, I stayed up untill midnight with school at 7, and it was worth it!

On a slightly different note, the Universal UNS-1C Flight Management Computer is showing a position of N00.00.1 latitude, E38.11.5 longitude in the video. That's Kenya, almost dead-on the Equator...

really like the album, but fingers would've put it over the top...
