I honestly think this is one of the finest collection of tunes on one cd that JB has done in a very long time, maybe since Floridays... A lot of good albums have come and gone over the last years, but none with a total collection of great artistry....What ever your preference is, lets just hope we get years and years more of new material, and relaxation and such that we all are attracted to from Jimmy.
Trying to Reason, With Hurricane Season......
well, I guess I have nothing new to say that you all have said!!! LOL! But being a ParrotHead, I NEED to have my say!! LOL!
I enjoy all the tunes! Last Man Standing was GREAT for us NYer's, (Thanks Jim); Autor is HOT! I think it should have been called Voo-Doo Dancin'!! LOL! Savannah Fare Ye Well, is a lovely tribute to his daughter <sniff, sniff, wiping away a tear> and All the Ways I Want You, d*mn, time to take off the grass skirts and slip into something more comfortable! Woo-woo! This CD is by fare better than his Beachhouse on the Moon! AND when you drop into the PC, what a GREAT show!!!
Phins up PH's!!!

I just love his cd, I have listened to it so many times already, I hope it doesn't wear out the disc. I have no complaints. Heard some songs live in Columbus, can't wait to hear more this year.

" The Far Side of the World" is a great piece of work. Everytime I listen to it, I take a little trip. I love watching the sun go down with a corona in hand, and listening to the CD in the background. It also works well when I'm out on my sailboat. Savannah Fare You Well is a beautiful song. I think Someday I Will was written for all of the dreamers out there, and it is a truly an inspiring track. This is definitely one of his best. I can't wait to hear it all live in Atlanta (there should have been two shows).
I see a white sail skipping across a blue bay, and I say someday I will.

Did you also notice the latitude flips from N00-00.1 to S00-00.0? An equatorial crossing.
There are million things there. The timeheld marine tradition in an equatorial crossing; a transit to the southern hemisphere, a "far side" of the world; a reference to Changes in Latitudes.

I must confess, I could use some rest. I can't run at this pace very long.

A little better than Beach House on the Moon. Not as good as Banana Wind or Barometer Soup.
One of the best album covers.
His best video.
BEST: Far Side of the World - Autour Du Rocher - Altered Boy
GOOD: Blue Guitar - Savannah Fare You Well - All The Ways I Want You - Last Man Standing
O.K.: Mademoiselle - Someday I Will - Tonight I Just Need My Guitar
SORRY JIMMY: Hokey Pokey - USS Zydecoldsmobile
It took me about 3 times round to make opinions. It didn't grab me like most other of his records, but it's an improvement over the last.
Looking forward to the tour, but he's sure making us west coast fans wait. At least there's Radio Margaritaville.

Not to offend, but this is one of the least inspired efforts out of Buffett in a long time. (And he's had a string of uninspired efforts over the last few years) It's not as bad as a couple, but it's pretty weak. There are only a couple of decent songs, ("Savannah" being the best) and of those, he didn't write them. It's almost like, "It's about time to do another tour, so lets pump out some average CD."

I hate to say this, but Far Side of the World is one of Jimmy's weakest albums. With each album that comes out, he gets farther and farther from his roots/classic music (late '70s) that made him who he is. Even the 1980's albums sound fantastic in comparison to this latest stuff.
This is one of those albums where you pretty much have to force yourself to get into the music. A person shouldn't have to repeatedly listen to the songs to start liking thme. True, there are some good songs on it, like the title track, USS Zydecosmobile, and Fare You Well Savannah, but the songs in general are rather bland. And some are downright stupid, like What if the Hokey Pokey... (just a re-recording of Mental Floss with new words).
It is very thin on the steel drums and acoustic guitar, and harmonica is missing altogether. The sound production is very muddy (not much treble clarity). Some of the artwork is good (lots of color pictures) and the video clip on the CD is a bonus. But the ugly primitiveness of Africa is an eyesore, and the back cover of a rundown hotel looks like crap.
So with the heavy African theme and the lack of "Parrothead" instruments, this album is his least tropical disk since his second album "High Cumberland Jubilee". Not a good sign.
Sorry, but this one is a disappointment. Since we give him millions of dollars to lead his lifestyle, we ought to expect better quality albums in return, especially when they are over 2 years in the making. Maybe in a few years we can get an album that brings back that sunny Caribbean soul. For now he just sounds like he is going through the motions. Hmmm..

I have got to say that after listening to this CD for the past two months, I am flat disappointed. I think JB did some of his best work in the 90's, but 2000 and beyond is not looking good. I love JB and consider myself a life long phan, but give me a break. Blue Guitar, Savannah, Last Man, and Far Side are the bright spots. Some songs like All The Ways, Someday I Will, and Tonight had potential, but it is like JB just gave up on them. The rest are weak at best. Autour and Altered Boy are about as bad as JB has ever done.
I'm going to shelve this one with the "old log book".

Lighten up guys, this is a pretty good album. I have to admit that I didn't even buy the album until after I heard Jimmy perform "Far Side" on the Jay Leno show, I figured it was just another new Buffett album that I wouldn't care for. But this is the best Jimmy has come out with since Fruitcakes! I really like listening to this album, but lets face it, Jimmy Buffett is AT HIS BEST live in concert. Its as simple as that. When Jimmy comes out with a new album its just an appetizer for the BEST show in the world...be it our side or the far side!!

I love the album, but it does scare me to think what direction Jimmy is
headed in for the future! Far side has way to many cover songs and almost no steel drums. In fact, and this might offend some people, but this album is to "adult contemporary" in my opinion. I've said it before and i'll say it again, with all the talent that exists within Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band, why is that talent seldom used anymore? and why does he not utilize Utley, McDonald, Robert G., Mayer brothers, Guth, and Lee, for song writing partner's anymore? But instead he uses and lately only uses Macanally for his own song ideas. P.S Blue Guitar is not an exception as it was written and recorded before Far Side and Someday I Will was already written by Matt Betton and Jimmy added a few lines to it! Hey Jimmy go back to the feel of Fruitcakes, Barometer Soup, and Banana Wind, albums you and the reefers wrote. No more covers!
