Anyone have any experience with seeing a concert there at the main pavilion? Considering road tripping there for a show. Looks cool but wonder if anyone can expand on internet visuals?
Thanks!!

Kevin (PA Parrot) and I were there a few years ago (the night before Jimmy was cancelled at Bristow because of the hurricane). We saw John Prine for our first visit at that venue. It is beautiful and the sound is amazing. At that time they allowed you to bring in coolers and food so we saw a lot of folks sitting on the grass having some drinks & snacks prior to the show.

Thanks Linda! Considering a Moody Blues show there. Trying to decide between there & Chicago (Ravinia Festival Grounds).

ohhhhh -- we saw the Moody Blues many, many moons ago at Penn State (where Kevin was a "student"). That would be an awesome show at Wolf Trap. They are actually coming to the Mann Music Theater (about 1.45 hrs from us) in July. We are considering it......

Yeah, saw them do the "Long Distance Voyager" tour of '80 or '81 I believe. Then had tix to a May 2015 show at Red Rocks. Unfortunately the show was moved indoors due to snow & cold weather. Still an excellent concert! This tour marks the 50 year anniversary of the "Days of Future Passed" album. I think they're gonna play it in it's entirety, then play the second set of all their greatest hits. Would recommend seeing it!

Wolf Trap is awesome. I get there a few times a year. There are no video screens if you're on the lawn so the view isn't great from there but the sound is excellent. Unlike Great Woods which is amazingly sucky. But I digress. Yep, you can take in coolers and picnic on the lawn prior to the show or if you have seats inside you can also do all that in the parking area before the show. Tax money well spent for this national treasure in my opinion. I'm hoping Lyle Lovett and his Large Band return again this summer.
When the Filene Center burnt down 35 years ago the support to rebuild was amazing. It's a good story about presidents, entertainers and the community coming together to rebuild in just over a year.

I've been there dozens of times in recent years. Great, great place for concerts. As MDShark70 said, you can bring coolers, blankets, food, booze, whatever in with you for consumption on the lawn. Nothing at all allowed in the seats though. It's a smaller place. Pavilion is two levels. Obviously the lower level is preferable, but the upper level is fine too. The lawn is small and quite nice, but prime spots fill up quickly. The gates open and people literally run in and set up their blankets to claim their spots. You can show up late and find good spots on the lawn, but you won't get room to sprawl out. Never bad getting in/out of the venue itself. I would pick Wolf Trap over any other outdoor venue I've been to.

For the record, Linda and Kevin did not drive to Wolftrap themselves. DC metro area traffic frightens them.
Yup.

yes, Bob's account is correct. Heck, Kevin doesn't even drive to church 5 miles from home

....not that is frightens him...he just doesn't like to drive - he'd rather sit and watch traffic go by while jammin to the tunes !
