I've been going to Buffett concerts for about 30 years and I've been to well over 100 shows. I don't think I've ever seen a parking lot that was as trashed as Jones Beach was after the show last night, it was disgusting. Piles of garbage all over the place, empty beer cans and bottles strewn about like it was a vacant lot in the inner city. It was a perfect example of why venues would consider cutting back lot opening times and cracking down on tailgating. It was embarrassing to see how bad the lot looked when we got back to the cars.

I get that people don't want to leave their smelly trash in a hot car for a few hours while they go into the show. But ffs, bag it up and leave it near your car and then take it out with you.
You only have two options - havin' fun or freakin' out...

Jones Beach has those big old heavy duty metal trash baskets in the parking lot. There was one right where we were parked. Big black trash bag in the basket, throw our garbage in it, when the bag's full take it out and put another one in the basket. Lather, rinse, repeat. It's pretty simple.

Noticed the same thing at our local venue this year. While many DID bag up their stuff & put it right by the parking lot trash containers, some left outrageous amounts of unbagged trash in the parking spaces. Horrendous.

We see this at Great Woods as well. It is embarrassing to walk back to the car and see all the garbage that people leave. These venues allow us to tailgate and this is how they are repaid.

First off let me say that we LOVE Jones Beach, and have gone to Buffett tailgates/shows there for many years. We consider it our home venue. However, there are MANY, maybe even a majority at this point, people who come ONLY for the party, and don't go to the show. I noticed a lack of the friendly parrothead spirit as we walked around. Towards the end of the day, we were amazed at the many partiers who seemed perfectly happy to sit in their own filth, dirty paper plates, beer cans, cups, broken glass, as they continued to party. At one point an inebriated young man walked through our tailgate, tossing potato chips through the air as though he was throwing confetti, just obnoxious. Something is being lost in the translation. As for our tailgate, we did not leave a trace, except for the sealed trash bags next to the wire trash can. When we came out after the show, the lot looked like a riot had taken place there. Just garbage all over, much broken glass (this is a beach parking lot, people!!), even a couch, loveseat, and coffee table were left for someone else to clean up. Just embarrassing. We still had a wonderful day, but how many more will there be if this behavior continues?

This is sad. It is always like this. What was worse this year is that kids are having frat parties here and not even going to the concert. Had to waste all day kicking kids in between our trucks trying to releave themselves, even girls. They were even trying to use our tent to get out of the rain and when I asked them to leave, they would call us assholes and throw their beer container at us. Cops were called many times and finally after the 10th time, they did a raid. I knew it was going to be a bad day when there were people saving spots in the line up in the morning so their friends could get a good spot before they let cars in. I was there at 4am, if you get there late, you should be at the end of the line. After 20 years of doing this, I think this is my last tailgate here. Also, I had to move my vehicles just so they were safe so I could watch the concert. The frat party goers where all p*** at me because I would not let them use my truck as a bathroom that they were calling me every name in the book. Also had one keep ask me to watch his bag for him so he would not get caught by the cops... Sorry for the rant...
Now what would they do if I just sailed away
Who the hell really compelled me to leave today

That's a real shame. It's amazing how a few incredibly inconsiderate a-holes end will end up ruining it for everyone. I remember back when Nissan Pavilion still was a great parking lot they even had attendants going around handing out trash bags. That seemed to help, probably just by the suggestion that people should clean up after themselves. Although I do remember one year seeing a big truck come in with all sorts of "living room" furniture. It was still sitting there under the trees when everybody left.
It was too much tequila . . . . or not quite enough.

Unfortunately, it was a lot more than a few inconsiderate a-holes. I've never seen anything close to what I saw yesterday.

Can you imagine this happening in the boundaries of the tailgate of my brothers and I? It would get ugly real quick. We've been thinking of making a road trip to Jones Beach but we might reconsider after what I've read today. See you all in Camden. :pirate:

In the 1990's it used to be worse at GW, back then you could drive in any vehicle you wanted and tow in trailers, boats, UHaul's and the gates opened when the sun came up. People would bring in old couches, chairs, tables, grills etc.. that they planned on leaving behind so when the show ended it looked like a shanty town. Instead of just bringing the stuff to a dump they got one last use out of the stuff at the tailgate then left it behind. They now ban box trucks, big commercial vehicles, and don't allowed people to tow things anymore but you still see stuff left behind but no where near as bad as it was in the past.

I remember after a show prob 1997 or so my friend left his car behind after the show because he was drunk and took a cab back to the hotel, we went back the next morning and it seriously looked like an abandon refuge camp in that parking lot. When we returned the next morning for the 2nd concert the lot was crystal clean. The crew they had to clean up didn't get paid enough.

I agree-too many young (18-20) kids who had no interest in going to a concert or knowing who was even playing. State troopers busted up a bunch of underage kids in field 4 and dumped out all of their alcohol Kids just move right across from us and started again. They threw everything on the ground-right in front of the poor girl who was cleaning. On ocean parkway line at 5:15 and still didn't get in to field 5. Wish they could run it like Mansfield ( parking, EMTs and mini-jail)
Loved the show and especially CIL medley

That was when GW ruled!!!!! F*cking legendary. I understand the importance of respecting the environment but late 90s GW was more fun then a week in St. Barths. Yes . . . it was. God, those were fun days. Half that sh*t left behind was probably mine.

Ok I have to jump in on this. I have been going to shows since 1990 Great Woods. 25 or so over the years but haven't been in about 3 years. I wanted to give my kids the experience an got tickets for This Jones Beach show. They are twins and turned 11 this spring. I had to work and din't get to the Venue until about 6ish parked and headed right in to the main Parking Lot #5. I agree it was a mess. It also wasn't as Parrothead as I remember. I walked around with the family for about 1/2 hour and headed in because for the first time at a show I felt unsafe and uncomfortable. There were drunks and I mean sloppy 18 to 20 years old keep your drunk girlfriend at home drunks everywhere. Just wasn't getting that happy vibe. Don't know what really changed be it me having the little ones and a new perspective or just the crowd.

and no I haven't forgot all the crazy s*** the went on at Great Woods in the 90's I've seen vibrator racing in person

The simple answer is that you've grown up and they haven't. Some folks never do......

It wasn't that and I can still rip it up with best best of them. This was more of an under-aged Dave Mathews Band Frat Party. Just not a cool vibe more a sloppy mess time to leave vibe
