Just left the National Cemetery in Rock Island, IL, now I'm across the great River in Davenport, IA having my free meal at HOOTERS (even though I wasn't K.I.A.).
Still have one more cemetery to go to- Czech National Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, where my father is buried. He passed away 7 years ago today.

Don't really want to be *THAT* guy but it needs to be pointed out that today is Memorial Day.  It is not meant to honor all veterans — that day is in November — or those Americans currently wearing the uniform and serving in the military (isn't that what Armed Forces Day is for?); rather, it is intended to honor those Americans who GAVE THEIR LIFE in the service of their country — the ones who came home in the caskets or body bags, or never came back at all.

It's been said that a veteran is a person who, at some point in time, wrote a blank check to Uncle Sam for anything up to and including their own life.  So yes, if you come across a living vet by all means thank him or her for their sacrifice and service; after all, he or she wrote a check like that too.  But then stand, shoulder-to-shoulder with them, in silence and with respect while 'Taps' is played in honor of those whose checks were cashed.

Yep.
That's why I made sure I included my disclaimer "I wasn't K.I.A."
