I just looked at some random hotel rates for random dates in March and April for Key West and I don't think I can afford Key West! :o

I didn't realize how few direct KW flights exist. That could crimp the plans.

How about a flight into Homestead and rent a car?

I have never been to KW before so I obviously don't know the area nor the ins and outs of where to stay and how to get around. Any and all tips are greatly appreciated. I knew KW was a little "spendy" as they say but my 15 minutes of research was an eye opener (a little pun to myself as I am having cataract surgery next week).

There is not too much planning that can be done until we get a confirmed date.

Thanks,

Kelly

if you stay away from Duval street and closer to Route 1 where it comes into Key West. sometimes you can find something cheaper. A couple of places you could try walking distance to Duval St is El Patio , South Winds , Seashell , Silver Palms , Blue Marlin to name a few. I personally never stayed at any of those , But I know there are usually inexpensive.

I can vouch for Silver Palms. It's about two blocks east of Duval, not bad.

Compare Silver Palms with La Concha in terms of prices though. La Concha is sometimes cheaper and it's closer to the action.

I found something online called the "Mile 0 Fest" that will have events at the Truman Amphitheater Feb 7-10, 2018, so I imagine that Jimmy's show would have to be before that?

Just found this page looking for info on the Key West show announced last summer for 2018. For those looking at Key West, there are a lot of options when going to KW. Hotel prices can swing hugely from one weekend to the next depending on the events happening, whenever they do announce the show, that weekend will skyrocket.

There is a way around by just staying a few islands up 5-10 miles can save you a lot of money.

For those looking for flights to KW, there are only flights from close airports like MIA since the airport only accommodates small planes like an ATR. You can fly into MIA and connect to KW which can save you a rental car. You will not need a car on KW although that could change the tailgate. If you want a car best bet is probably fly into MIA or FLL and drive down. It's about 3.5 hours of a beautiful drive from MIA.

We have only flown into KW directly once. Otherwise we fly into FLL or MIA, and drive down. Park the rental car wherever we land (we've loved La Pensione).

I fly into FLL , a bit cheaper with Southwest and Jet Blue , but if you are going Summer time , you can get flights into KW pretty reasonable. I compare flying in , to what it would cost Flying , car rental , gas , food and tolls. As far as hotels or Inns , during the summer , they offer some great deals.

My wife and I have been flying down from Philly the past few years and have flown direct and taken the ride from Miami, at varying price points. Last year, we were able to do a flight to Miami, convertible for 5 days and hotel for under $1400 near the end of June. Couldn't pass that up...

This year, we're heading down the end of August - as we're taking our kids along - and the airfare was surprisingly cheap to fly into Key West. 4 from Philly flying into Atlanta then flying to Key West plus ocean view at Southernmost for under $3000 for Monday through Saturday. Can't wait!

Has the venue even opened yet?

I see one show scheduled for 5/17. Styx and Blue Oyster Cult. Tickets $65-$95.

Maybe Jimmy and the CRB will be the inaugural act sometime between now and then?

Yes, there have been a few small shows there. I really think the hurricane put all plans on hold. I’d think this fall or next spring if anything.

Anyone heard any news on this?

I checked out Peter Mayer's Band & it looks like he's playing Key West around Halloween & first couple days of Nov. Not sure if that is a signal to JB playing as well?

Would love more current info, news, rumors, leads, etc,...

Fins Up!

And we gave up waiting for a concert announcement. End of July/early August for a few days.

Around Halloween and the first few days of November is Meeting Of The Minds. A lot of the Coral Reefers are there every year so I wouldn't read anything into that.

Ahhh sh*t that's right. Thanks.

Hopeful we learn something soon (by Jimmy's standards) [smilie=cheeky-grin.gif]
