Most excited that former Tigers Jack Morris & Alan Trammell will also be going in via the Modern Era Baseball committee! The memories those guys presented were priceless!

Opening Day of the baseball season and I just heard Rusty Staub died. The article I saw said he was the only player in major league history to get at least 500 hits for each of 4 different teams - Astros (although they were still the Colt .45s when he started playing for them), Expos, Mets and Tigers. He was also one of only 4 players to hit a home run in the major leagues before he turned 20 and after he turned 40, the others were Ty Cobb, Alex Rodriguez and Garry Sheffield. He did a lot of good off the field too, he started a foundation in NYC for widows and children of police officers and fire fighters and raised millions of dollars over the years.

He used to own a restaurant in Manhattan, if I remember correctly it was called Rusty's. I never ate there but it was supposed to be very good. Probably a little out of my price range at the time.

For years, I said I don't watch ball sports...only racing.
But I guess I have changed. I watched all the play off Astros games last season and so far, have watched all the Houston games this season.
I don't really understand all the ins and outs of the game, but it is fun watching this team.

:D

Robinson Cano has been suspended for 80 games for failing a drug test. It wasn't a performance enhancing drug but from what I read, it was a drug that can be used as a masking agent for PEDs. He's on the disabled list right now because he was hit by a pitch a couple of days ago and has a broken hand or finger, I forget which. Under baseball's rules, he can start serving the suspension while he's on the disabled list. I don't agree with that, I think he should have to be available to play before the suspension starts.

Broken fifth metacarpal.... He could still play in the final 42 games of the season, but he's ineligible for the playoffs (if Seattle was to make the stinkin' playoffs....) He (and his agent) has known about the failed test since Spring Training but just told the Team about it yesterday when the final ruling was due to come out. WTF?

If there's a bright side, I guess it's that he will be losing about half his $24M salary for the year.

The Carolina League All Star game is next Tuesday, the rosters were announced yesterday. The Myrtle Beach Pelicans have 3 players on the team (actually 4, but one was promoted to Double A last week so he'll have to be replaced). One of them is the shortstop. He's hitting .228 and has 15 errors in 52 games. How is that All Star worthy? Unless he's being rewarded for being the youngest player in the league, he's only 19 years old.

I never thought I would say this, but I think Tim Tebow will be playing in the major leagues this year. The Mets may wait until September 1 when rosters are expanded from 25 players to 40 but they have no shot at the playoffs so they might as well do something that should at least boost attendance. I've been a Mets fan since they were an expansion team in 1962, if I still lived on Long Island I'd go to a game to see Tebow play. There's no other reason to watch that clown show of a team.

So much for my prediction of Tim Tebow playing in the major leagues this year. I heard on ESPN last night that he has a broken bone in his right hand and is going to miss the rest of the season.

And the playoffs have started.
Good luck too all the teams (but not those playing the Astros. ).

The Astros are kicking booty. Now, against my better judgement, I have to root for the Red Sox to beat the Yankees again.

I guess I'll root for the Dodgers in the National League now since they started life in Brooklyn, just like I did. I'll root for the Astros in the American League. They'll be playing either the Yankees or the Red Sox. As a Mets fan I can't root for the Yankees and no NYer would ever root for a team from Boston.

Teams I don't like: Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers. Brewers beat the Rockies, so I'll root for them (I'm an NL gal), and the Astros cause I don't like the other AL teams.

Thanks Larry and Penny for rooting for the Astros. They can use all the fans they can get. I hope they don't let you down.

Red Sox need one more game. Hopefully as dominating as last night.

Honestly this is the best time of the year for sports.

NFL, College football, October baseball, hockey season has begun.

Question? Did the Red Sox have their extra point blocked or was it a flat out miss??

I know this series isn't over & a game 5 is still a good possibility but damn these division championship series were sure anti-climatic :o

I remember when Mets fans wouldn't root for the Astose. Rooting for a Sox / Brewers WS.
