Brrrrr...still very cold here at Ringville.
Slow Saturday -- YAY! Kevin working at Home Brew Store, me doing "normal" Saturday stuff. Gym, food shopping, etc. I'm hoping this is my last Saturday with a right hand in complete mobilization! Visit with surgeon on Wednesday. Can't believe I'm saying this but after 9 wks I'm ready for the strengthening PT. (Check back with me in a week

)

Good morning. There's a 40% chance of rain today and 90% tomorrow. I guess this will be an indoor weekend.

Hi all!
Went out and walked since it is in the 40s with sun here. Such a nice day! We decided to repaint our main living area which is a pain in the rump. I have a terrible time picking out colors and am feeling rushed now that our walls are full of spackle so there in no going back.
Anyone want to come over, pick colors, and tell me what to buy? Bonus points if you will do the prep work, too.

Morning All,
It's the Australia Day long weekend here.
It's been hovering around 95° to 100° for a couple of weeks - that's all good, except about a week ago the humidity climbed to high 80's to low 90's and has stayed there!!!
Tropical, tropical, tropical.
Still no joy with the insurance claim for our Christmas trip (which we missed as I ended up in hospital), BUT, we have booked another trip to Vanuatu.
Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So, in a way this hot humid weather is simply an acclimatisation session!!
Hey PetalMel - spent some time picking colours too - we got a new front door - who knew it would be SOOOOOOOOOOOOO difficult? Frankly I am happy with the undercoat white it came with, but someone else doesn't agree

I love to pick paint colors but can't help with prep work....at least not until Dr. Thumb says I'm good to go

Ahoy! We were almost done this morning when the rain started. We hurried it up.
Our side room was dark wood paneling that was transformed to a beach theme with colors and nick knacks. Most of the room anyway is different. I had to hang the guns back where they were. Rifles don't add to the theme, but it's a small house.

Howday!!

Weekly trip to Mom's. Couldn't get a hold of her on the phone since 9:00 am. So I just guessed at what she might need. She's been busy doing activities all day, and was in the theater watching a movie!!
Out for dinner tonight. A pizza place that's been around a while, and has a Chicago theme.

Vanuatu, eh? Have you ever read "The Sex Lives of Cannibals"? It is written by J. Maarten Troost and set in Vanuatu. I have read a few of his books and they are really good reads. I will be interested to hear about your trip. I am kinda sorta set on colors for paint. Now to find the motivation to do all the prep work....

You don't even have to help with prep work, just come over and pick the paint colors and tell me which wall each color goes on. I am almost ready to go back to plain ole beige on everything.

I haven't read the book but will keep an eye out for it. There we still 'head-hunters' and cannibalism was still around when I first visited but "long pig" (human meat for consumption) is off the menu these days.
I first visited Vanuatu in the very early eighties but, being a gormless youth, I really didn't understand the jewel that it is. Actually the same can also said for New Caledonia and the same gormless youth.
In 1996 I started taking tour groups to Luganville on the island of Espiritu Santo to dive the wreck of the S.S. President Coolidge. We went once or twice a year and a love affair with the place bloomed. I continued to take groups for a bit over 10 years.
In about 2004 I took my, then, girlfriend to Samoa and in 2005 Fiji. Toni is a country girl and although she had travelled to the US and Canada she had never been to the South-West Pacific. To my great joy she also fell under the spell of the islands and the islanders.
In 2006 we headed to Vanuatu - to Hideaway Island at Mele Bay (on the island of Efaté). This trip was for our wedding. We got married on the beach in a traditional Mele village wedding. It was amazing. On a visit back in 2016 we were in a nakamal (a village meeting place where kava is drunk) at Mele village and two of the gents in the nakamal recognised us from our wedding 10 years before.
So I guess Vanuatu is our happy place. Segond Channel on Espiritu Santo is my OPH.
This trip is a bit different - we normally stay out of town at Hideaway Island or out near Mele at a place Called Benjor Beach Resort. This next trip we will be staying at Iririki Island which is right in the heart of Port Vila, the national capital. It is a bit more up-market than where we usually would stay but due to a few things we decided to splurge and do the up market thing.
I can't wait.

Well, E has successfully planned a wonderful birthday weekend for me, next weekend. <3 Friday, we're going to a DU hockey game, then a night in a hotel, get up the next morning and exercise together to get ready for his next knee surgery. Saturday we'll stop at our favorite brewery, cause we've been there for the last 5 birthday's we've had. Saturday night is Greek food out. Sunday is a good breakfast, and an appetizer late lunch/early dinner while watching the Super Bowl. We have to check into the hospital at 6:00 am on Monday for his second knee replacement.
