Yeah. These songs have been in the rotation a lot recently. I wouldn't mind Great Filling in every set. Great jam and old school. He will never drop BEG. He recorded it. Crowd favorite. I get why he plays it. My grandma knows the song Brown Eyed Girl. And, I really like Knees of my heart but it has been in the set a lot. I get why he plays some of these songs. Knee Deep is relevant to the younger, country crowd. Back Where I come From allows him to feature Mac more and Knees of my heart allows Robert G to kill it on the steel drums. But, he could def. switch these songs up. No average fan would be upset if he didn't play these.
I think I mentioned in a thread with a similar topic: I have no issue with hearing the hits. Every musician is going to play their hits. People still go and see acts like the Stones and Springsteen for songs they’ve heard a ridiculous number of times, not for their new stuff.

But we’ve transitioned from The Big 8 to The Big 12 with BEG, OPH, 5 O’Clock, and Southern Cross, and then there’s a very shallow pool of second-tier songs that are like a 50/50 shot to hear during every tour, like Knee Deep, Back Where I Come From, Grapefruit Juicufruit, Pencil-Thin Mustache, Weather With You, Knees of My Heart, etc.

The end result is out of a 22-24 song setlist, we’re left with a small handful of songs that aren’t in the standard rotation.

What I’m getting at is I’d like to see that second tier get just a little bit smaller and that third category get just a little bit bigger. I feel like as recently as the Welcome To Fin Land or Loungin’ at the Lagoon tours, we were getting a lot more variation with stuff we hadn’t heart in a while: Wino and I Know, Who’s the Blonde Stranger, King of Somwhere Hot, etc. We got Barometer Soup and Meet Me in Memphis in Chicago two years ago and that was a real treat.

You know I'm always saying the same thing..."that he needs to drop some of the SYKBH's, but then he stopped playing OPH and damned if I diddn't miss it. So more or less I'm good if he plays his standards but mixes up the addins a little bit from tour to tour and city to city.

Interesting discussion, I guess no right or wrong answers, just differing opinions. I do think Finsup is at the heart of the matter. Basically Jimmy is in the trap of his own success, no matter what he does or does not sing, he will be second guessed to some degree. I have to say it doesn't bother me what song list he chooses, when the show is unfolding its always a pretty happy place, so I just try to soak it up, plus I am still fascinated with the crowd reaction to the standards including BEG. The roar for BEG is still awesome, I just consider it a production song so its no big deal. (but I understand) A few times I have been sitting with first time concert goers and they are in total awe of Jimmy and the flock, so while I am thinking, wonder if he will play Cowboy or Schoolboy, they are in a frenzy over CIP, I think that is just the Buffett experience. People here for the most part really get the Buffett Music, "Pure Jimmy Buffett" is an acquired taste of experience. Concert Jimmy Buffett is an entertainment overload, with all the concert colors of fan mania, the music,SYBH and the full on PH party. We are Jimmy's Gumbo, all of us, and if you don't like shrimp, just take them out, but the Gumbo is still great!

Here are some of the songs we got from Welcome to Fin Land in Chicago:

Wino and I Know
Off to See the Lizard
Life is Just a Tire Swing
Gods Own Drunk
School Boy Heart
Jolly Mon Sing

Those songs have largely been out of the rotation ever since.

On this topic, is the I Don’t Know Tour 201? officially over as of tonight with the conclusion of the Charlottesville show?

I’ve been looking through old set lists. We’ve been getting Gypsies/Take It Easy acoustic since 5/23/2016.

Tiki Bar followed by Knees of My Heart was something I heard at the last Alpine show, 9/3/2016 and at that point it may have started a few weeks earlier. It was in the setlist tonight.

Fins/Margaritaville back to back at the midway point of the set has being going on since the start of the Workin’ and Playin’ tour, 5/25/2015!

Somebody PLEASE change up the set list.

In MD We Are The People was instead of Tiki Bar. Hopefully the SOASOS Tour brings some album cuts.

The opportunity was there with Changes and all we got was the Biloxi snippet intro and an acoustic medley, so I’m not holding my breath.

I know people gripe about covers on here but I have enjoyed the Tom Petty covers.

I think he should keep learning to fly and then move into "Tree Top Flyer" halfway thru. That would be sick 8)

He didn't do Brown Eyed Girl in Baltimore last week. So there's that.

I've always thought this should be the pre-show opener:

I could do without the Grateful Dead Cover song, also Stars on the Water, never cared for that song.

This is why this topic is kind of silly. Different strokes for different folks. I love Stars on the Water and if he is going to do covers I would take Uncle Johns Band and SB over Back Where I come From and BEG

With Radio Margaritaville and Margaritaville TV Jimmy gives us the opportunity to see or hear almost every single concert. I mean what other performer does that?

That being said, it is also one of the reasons it's so easy to become jaded and cynical about his choice of songs to include in the set lists. We've heard them. Over and over and ....

The jokes and banter are the same with minor variations depending on the venue and city (" ... but it's a real beauty, a [insert-city-here] cutie ..."), but again, we only know that because we get to hear every. single. show.

And we dedicated join a BuffettNews forum fans obviously know a deeper cut of Jimmy's catalog. Me? I seriously want to hear him play "African Friend" live. I've been to somewhere around 100 shows, but never heard it. But .... at any given show with 15 - 20,000 fans, who am I to say "drop Cheeseburger In Paradise" and play a more obscure song for me"? Because also at that show are hundreds perhaps thousands of fans attending their very first show.

And they deserve and want to hear the hits.

thirded! [smilie=gt-happyup.gif]

I play the music at our Parrot Head Club meetings and I always play Hot Hot Hot first, while I'm tweaking the volume, before launching into an evening of exclusive Buffett music. It's a great setup song, it makes you smile and you know Jimmy's coming after it. People tell me they miss hearing that one at the shows.

There are many songs that if they come on the radio, I would be apt to change the channel. Come Monday, Cheeseburger, etc. The funny thing about those songs is that when we are at a concert, they are the songs usually sung the loudest by everyone. These threads keep coming up and a few years ago, Jimmy threw a concert down in Key West where the fans picked the set list. To my surprise, most of the songs the diehards didn't't want to hear mostly all made the set list and is was not much different than his normal concert. Someday I hope to hear some of the more unusual songs at ahis shows but I accept those that are standards, except when I can change the radio station.

P.S. It is getting harder to listen to Radio Margaritaville as most of the over played songs are now being played in their musical version. Gag!!!
